Here is a PDF of "No Park Walmarts" I found it online and the web address is on the bottom. If they are on my list I usually dont bother asking and hit another one on down the road. I am new to all of the Forum's so I am not sure if I posted or attached the PDF appropriately. Hope I got it right! Attached File(s) No_Park_Walmarts.pdf ( 110.04K ) Number of downloads: 0

Solar Panels

I went to HF & bought two solar kit that were on sale, they are 45 W each for a total of 90 W. I got each kit for $149.00, I believe they are on sale now for $200.00 each. They have a normal price of $250.00 each, so they say. They are not the best but will do to try to learn on, & I do not need much power. I am new to solar but you can see what I did on my blog. For both Sam's Clubs and Wal-Mart, we stop at the Customer Service desk and ask to speak to the manager. We usually have already parked way out at the far edge of the parking lot. We ask if our location is okay. Then we shop (or sometimes a little later). We have discovered that we like the Sam's Club parking lots better. I've noticed that some of the Wal-Marts that don't allow parking will be next door to a Sam's...

Maddog348, Hello to a fellow Bakersfieldian! <G> If you stay in the main road as you enter instead of entering the parking lot and go all the way to the fence you have room. I suppose I should mention that it is a "tight" parking lot! Thanks for the reminder. Actually I'd go on down to Rosedale and park at the one out on the corner of Coffee and Rosedale. Much more room to maneuver. Thanks...

QUOTE (nana25k @ Dec 26 2009, 11:47 AM) Its so strange but in all of our Wal-Mart stop overs we have never even seen a secruity patrol!!!! We generally call ahead and confirm which usually means we end up speaking to the manager any way. Nana: Many times there aren't any patrols, but there will always be a Security Department in each Walmart. If you go in to the store, and the customer...

Customer service is always our first stop as they can page the manager or tell us where they are. We make a point of saying hello to the parking lot security folks too and let them know we talked to the manager about staying overnight.

Generally, when route planning I put the WalMart into StreetAtlas along with its phone number. That way the number shows up along with the "Stop". That way, Danielle calls to confirm that overnight parking is allowed and where they prefer us to park. Unless I know the Walmart, as part of the planning process I also look at the satellite photos of the parking lot to see about best access, and best places to park.

I've stayed in Walmarts all across Canada and this is how I get permission (or not): 1) I look to see if there is a sign telling RVs where to park. If so, I park there and don't ask for permission. Whitehorse, Yukon, has a Walmart that does it as does Val d'Or, QC. 2) I look for a sign saying there is no overnight park allowed. If so, I usually move on. Prince George, BC, comes to mind. 3) I go in to the customer service desk...

Hi LJW There is likely no more ideal route to embark on a boondocking trip I could think of. We spent the summer of 2008 doing what you are planning. When you find a suitable place to pull over that is home for the night. AK allows for 14 day stays along the road. Make sure you can pull well off & walk the ground to avoid soft spots etc. You can make use of open gravel banks as well. We...

QUOTE (Rumbum @ Nov 7 2009, 02:17 PM) How do I know if we should outfit our rig for boondocking? My husband and I have lived in the MH for 5 months. We spent 3 months in the driveway of the house, then a month visiting relatives across Texas, one month touring New Mexico. We are interested in boondocking but have actually done very little of it. We have not had much luck finding ...

36 feet seems to be about the sweet spot for a lot of campgrounds, but a motorhome is a lot easier to manouver than say a 5er or tt. 37' shouldn't be any problem. there may be a few places you won't be able to go but not many. if you are going to be pulling a toad, there may be a time or two you have to unhook it when entering some campgrounds because of tight turns etc. go for it!...

No, there is no central place...each BoF and Chapter has their own area. The Boomers, for example park out on BLM land east of Q and about 1+ miles south of the frontage road. The one year we visited a friend who was parked with the SOLOs, they were parked out on the BLM land north of town off Plomosa Road. Decide which group(s) you want to park with and then find out where they'll be ...

Our Thetford 33 worked fine for over 5 years, was still going strong when we sold the truck. Of course we did take decent care of it, used an UV block and didn't drag it down the road at 25 MPH. They are built to be light so they are easy to haul around empty so they won't take a lot of abuse, after a few years of un-screened sun they can get a bit brittle.

We boondock a lot and have never had a problem with vandalism. Not saying it can't happen, just that it's never happened to us. I probably wouldn't leave anything laying around outside that you didn't want to lose, but other than that...and locking the doors and windows...there's probably not much you can do. Anyone who wants in badly enough can find a way in. By the way, Nevada is one...
