One more big Escapee welcome to Tugs! Let me suggest that if you are new to RVs you will do well to spend some time looking through the websites of many who post on this forum. In most cases, you can find a link to the author's website in his signature line. There are a very large number of years of RV experience to be found in the frequent posting members of these forums. Dick, Make sure you have a Passport America membership - will save 1/2 off of nightly fees at a lot of parks that are perfect for just overnight stops. There are 2 or 3 PPA parks in Tyler - we either stay at 5 Star or #1 RV Park of Tyler- both PPA. Just call to see if 5 Star has any spots available - lots of construction in the area so they have been full for the past few months. #1 has nice pull through sites that are good for an overnight....

Thanks for all the advice and encouraging remarks. Based on the inputs received, I think the best/easiest route from Danvers to Austin will be Mass pike to I84 to I81 to I40 to I30. When I get to Texarkana, I will probably head South towards Tyler to get off the interstate for a while. We won't be stopping much except for overnights on the way down since we will have a full load of goodies that need delivery in Austin. Just got my 3G...

I picked this information up from a friend of mine: QUOTE A 3rd generation (89-95) Toyota pickup is going to be towable as long as it has a 4 cylinder and manual hubs. The 4 cylinder has a gear driven t-case that you leave in 2wd (NOT neutral...neutral keeps the front and rear drivelines connected) and you put the hubs in freewheel. It is a rare option, but earlier Tacomas were available with manual locking hubs. I just don't know how...

QUOTE (Dick Winskowicz @ Nov 26 2009, 05:19 PM) I planned to take I81 to I66 and pick up I95 for a short time in Fredricksburg. Then pick up I85 to I20. This was the alternative to I81 all the way to I40 than on to I30 to TX. I figured to stay south of the Appalachians due to their elevations and perhaps milder weather south. Does anyone have an opinion of taking I81 all the way in December if the weather window looks OK. I...

Propane is available at most truck stops, in town it can be hard to find or to get to. Parks seem to have propane but the price will often leave you crying! With a motorhome I'd be sure to fill up at a truck stop before I needed any propane. If I planned to boondock and use much power I'd find a home for one or two 40 pound tanks and plan on running to the nearest fill station as needed. Any fuel is a hassle and you have to...

I hope whoever sold you that TT for 2K wasn't a friend. Its to bad you didn't find this forum before buying. IMO you were really ripped off. You will need to check about getting permits to build and if a campground license would even be allowed. For 3 RV's it may be required to put in a bigger septic system. Do a lot more research then you did buying the TT. NADA has the oldest they list...

Welcome to the forums, I haven't seen that generator but I'd suggest getting a full spec sheet on it and the Honda and going over all the details. Probably the most important one is the noise level followed by the much harder to estimate hours of lifetime. Don't get a noisy generator, it will drive you buggy and cost you a lot of friends every time you start it up and blast them with the ...

Old truckers rule from when trucks didn't have all the fancy Jake brakes and other stuff. Never go down a hill faster than you can go up and use the lowest gear you can to maintain that speed. If you have to do more than tap the brakes occassionally you are going too fast.

Yes, there are. You can get either the 18" wide, full-height dishwashers, or the dish washer drawers in many higher-line 5ers. Or add them yourself if you are handy. The newer dishwashers are amazingly frugal in water usage. I'm sure I use more water to wash and rinse a full-sized load by hand. The biggest issue is the space they take. In some floorplans it is tough to sacrifice that space....

Jerry, Do you want to spend several weeks/months in one spot or plan to move often? If just moving every few months then a gasser will probably suffice. If exercised regularly they should be fine. They do consume a lot of propane though. For the cunsumption / cost of operating and the noise, I like the Honda Invertor series. Much quieter and more bang for the operating buck.

We find that around 400/month will get you a very nice park. Obviously, in high season, or in very popular tourist parks, the rates can be much higher. We have stayed in very adequate parks that range from $185-400, plus elec, and find that there isnt necessarily a correlation between higher rates and a better park. Just by doing some research and personal inspections, you should be ...

I still use a Blue Ox Ambassador. It is the one piece A-frame towbar. I bought it years ago when I had a place to stand it behind the drivers seat of our trucks when it wasn't being used. When we switched to a motorhome it became a problem. It takes a large flat place to store it and in our MH it doesn't fit well into any storage compartment. I made a place to hang it on the hitch bars with...

Welcome to the wide world of RV Parks. I think the short answer is, you are in the wrong park. Our first winter in the RGV in TX we found the same thing. Some parks have people that return year after year and are not interested to become friends with folks who are only there for a short while...usually less than 3 months. I believe you will only find this in winter destination parks, the ...
