Riddle me this about taxes in Vaud
Published (2009-11-27 13:29:00)
I thought the same but what my tax consultants told me in the end was it is quite possible to end up owing to the tax authorities in the case of tax at source. I can only advise to go for each and every deduction you can; if you're filing a return, don't just file a "standard" one with the fixed deductions etc. Quote: CorsebouTheReturn Actually now that i remember, a colleague told me its good to fill tax return...

Quote: CorsebouTheReturn why have you filled tax return if you are paid "a la source"? I heard its all automatically done? If you invest on a 3rd pillar, make substantial charities, etc you may want to verify if you can have something reimbursed. It can be as high as your monthly salary in some cases. The system is rich enough. I personally think if I can have 100 bucks reimbursed It's worth the work, It will sponsor a...

Quote: baris It is quite complicated and as I said I'm still struggling to get it right. 50K was for 3 years worth taxes and they had not deducted all the relevant tax at source payments. Later they fixed this error and sent me a new invoice, with brand new errors. Why have I filed a tax return? A question I have been asking myself every day for the past 4 months. Apparently those taxed at source with income over 120K/year are supposed...

UK / Swiss bank?

Quote: MarieZug I walked into a HSBC branch in the UK this year and withdrew cash from my offshore HSBC account - prearranged but wasn't set up properly, and this wasn't a problem. They could see my account just fine, they just couldn't see the balance and needed a confirmation from the offshore branch that I had the funds. In the last year I have also done transfers to other people with accounts within the HSBC group and these...

3rd Pillar Questions
Published (2009-11-29 20:52:00)
Thats interesting. It seems like I wouldn't pay much taxes on withdrawing the cash. The example seems like this. I pay in 3 years, say 20k. Each year I get back ~1500-2000CHF in tax refund. Finally I withdraw the money, and tax around 550CHF on the 20k. It seems hard to believe. I've have a net earning of around 4k. Can anyone verify this? Cheers!

Hi Richard, thanks for the reminder. I am wondering whether it makes sense for me to pay the 3rd pillar this year, when I know I am about to leave next year? To which rate it will be taxed when/if I cash out next year? Normal income rate or something else? Cheers, Pekka

I am not aware of any 'donation tax' amounting to 50% in Switzerland. Though laws vary from canton to canton. What you can do is write in your own hand writing and date, place and sign a sheet of paper to go with your British will as follows: "As a British citizen I wish my will to be executed under the laws of England and Wales in accordance with the attached will made in the UK" This ...

You could investigate if your Swiss employers pension co. operates a registered QROPS or else tranfer to a UK SIPP. check https://www.sippcentre.co.uk/index.asp for more information, but check carefully the tranfer costs
