What boggles my mind is the fact that they interviewed "a very sweet candidate with work permit and experience who is happy with the salary"... they have never met me, I have yet to get a work permit and I don't have nanny-specific experience... why are they even still talking to me...

As it has been pointed out, here and in many other posts, contracts are quite different; as a rule of thumb, the notice period is reciprocal.

If she'd have been able to read the warnings here then she might have been more careful. The cached version also appears to have gone from google so I can't retrieve it to see if she signed up to any of the "less good" schemes. If anyone has a copy of the long posts giving specific...

Just remember about another "classic"... Idiots recruiters (that's their official names ) are not being able to cope with more than 2 cvs a day, and 2 calls. Therefore, they usually don't bother with anything not recent on websites. So to make them less unhappy (and be contacted) you need to remember to REUPLOAD very often your CV onlines. For example, you have profile on Monster.ch, topjobs.ch, etc... whatever....

At this point, I would have expected her to say good luck and goodbye to me. Did I understand...

What do you work in?
I see the salaries of some people over on IT certification forums, and they earn 20-30k GBP a year for doing systems administration or things like that. Rarely does anyone earn higher than 60k GBP from what I've seen.
My salary in Swiss francs converted to GBP is considerably higher than this, so I'm think if you got a Swiss salary in the UK, you'd be doing rather well....

Hi Ladydiva,
You mention management level but not the industry. A lot of boutique agencies specialise in dedicated sectors. Maybe some more info?
Oh, and welcome to the Forum

I am sure your employer meant the other way around. Taxes and health insurance are far higher in Geneva. Rents are noticeably higher and the appartments not as well maintained.
All the other costs are pretty much the same.
If there's a salary gap (actually at my current employer there is one) i don't think it applies to graduate hires though.

Your qualifications, nationality, etc. are irrelevant for unemployment benefits. You have paid unemployment insurance premiums and are therefore entitled to benefits.
However, depending on your passport and permit status, the migration department may retract permission to stay, if you have no employer sponsor.

Is English your mother tongue? If not, you'll have to take the Cambridge Proficiency Exam first to prove you have the necessary skills to teach English.
