Quote from Mom0/pH0x: i don't have a problem with incarcerating people either BUT when you do more of it than anyone else in the world your claim to "the land of the free" moniker kind of evaporates if you ask me... I hear ya. Just to go further...I think I've made the case far more people are incarcerated than those who are officially behind bars. The U.S. was such a great country. So sad.

Quote from traderNik: The ignore function is the only thing that makes this place tolerable. Why in the hell would I want to waste my time processing garbage like this (below)? It's not a matter of discipline, it's a matter of eliminating what you know to be garbage before it gets ingested. I have to agree with this post. There are far too many losing traders on ET to allow each one access to successful traders. There is a reason...

Quote from craig: What do you consider to be a "serious trading edge"? Positive expectancy - you have a profit factor that, after all trading costs are factored in, is reasonably above 1.0. If it doesn't make money, it is not an edge. Are you referring to a certain % win rate? Or could a system that had a 55% win rate but whose winners were much larger than the losers be considered in YOUR interpretation of an edge? Win% is...

Quote from TraDaToR: I don't know if it's just me, but making cold calls all day long to sell garbage stocks to elderly people is one of the last thing I would like to do in life. I did the cold call thing in a different inductry one time on a summer job and sweared I would never do it again. I would seriously prefer being a manual worker than that...Am I weird? Yes you are.....if you can make a lot of money doing it then do it.

Quote from SuperVolatility: US is the best place to be as far as taxes...if you can manage your money right ... [...] I am not advocating tax evasion but rather tax avoidance. Let's say I have $1m in short term capital gains in a given tax year. How do you "manage" these taxes in the US to become significantly lower. As far as I understand the US taxes short term capital gains as ordinary income, i.e. according to the income...

Absolutely shitty. Seriously.
Although my API has just started to pick up steam again, I can't plan on it doing well for the next year.
So, I've basically had to teach myself to trade all over again. And I plan on these tough times paying off in a big way.

That's actually a good way to live your life. Never take anything at face value. Verify it. How man scams would people avoid if they took the effort to do this?

Ronald Reagan had a saying that he sourced from an old Russian proverb. " Trust, but verify" You should generally trust people, but each step of the way rigorously verify what ...

I work at a real money firm for my day job, not a trader but I deal with them daily. I would eat my hat if they even knew of this site, at least the ones for the markets I cover.

If you've only paper traded then I think you'll be in for a rude awakening when you start trading with real money. With $$$$ on the line suddenly your emotions become a part of the trade, from euphoria where you have a winning trade to anguish and panic if a trade is going against you. In time, if you survive you'll be able to manage your emotions and whether a trade is going for you or ...

It all depends on the volume of contracts you're moving per trade.
The first broker I ever started with a few yrs ago( OpenECry) charged me $4.00 RT (ES) as long as I averaged minimum 150-200 RTs per month. I now do 5-7 times that volume but thru another broker I now use(Dorman) and pay $2.90 RT.
Its all about volume discounting............
