Sarah ... ... and welcome to the Village Did you make the selection using the Selection Brush Tool ?? ... although it takes longer I find that I get a better result using the lasso. Try this: Select the lasso tool (just the ordinary one) Set it to "Add to" (those little boxes up at the top of the screen ..hover your cursor above then and you will see the one I mean) Zoom in very close using the zoom tool (it looks like a...

Hi Jean, These instructions are for Windows. Open your My Pictures/Brushes folder and change the folder view to List so you just have a list of all the brush files. Resize the window so it takes up half of the screen and leave the window open. Now open your Presets/Brushes folder for PSE5 or PSE8 and also change the folder view to List and resize it. Arrange the two windows on the screen so you can compare the two lists. For each brush you...

Now how simple was that? I think they were using pse7. I tried it as they showed, keeping my original colored photo, and then the black and white side by side, and it was showing in the video that to change each seperate color to a lighter or darker tone of black and white just use the sliders, but as I am sliding say the blue slider, which is one of the colors in my photo, it is just changing the whole photo instead of darkening or lighting...

Okay, so I downloaded them and found where to load them, but once it asks for the location, I can't find it. Is there a place I should be looking and/or certain place I should be downloading them to?

I find it helpful when i think my item is transparent is to check it by putting a contrasting layer below the item. Then you i can catch a lot of little areas i missed erasing. Then i remove this layer before saving as a png.

Here is what I might try to do. I would make a selection of the blue sky with the rectangle selection tool and copy. Make a new layer and then paste the selection of the sky to the new layer. Then use the move tool and slide the sky down over the arm. Always many ways to do everything here in elements. Tina B

You have come quite far! Keep notching that belt! Some advice for the car; add a shadow beneath it. That will help to anchor it to the ground.

sara, If your layers are still available you can use the background eraser to erase the extra material. Adjust the brush size to get into the smaller areas and erase right up to the child. The alternative would have been for you to silhouette the subjects using a soft white brush. The soft brush would give you a soft edge which would help them blend better with the background. If you don't have the layers, sample the green background and...

I have tried all the suggestions, increasing the tolerance level etc, as well as experimenting endlessly myself, but I am unable to remove the rectangle around my image completely. There's no problem with the edges, or the sharpness of the image. But whatever I do there's always a clearly defined rectangle around my image, a slightly paler blue than the blue background in the word document I am inserting it onto. But least I no...

You didn't say if you were using the Organizer or not.
In the Organizer, you could always choose File->Rename. But you don't really need to do that if you use the Organizer, because the Organizer keeps your edited copies and originals together in a Version Set. Renaming seems to be an unnecessary step to me.
If you are not using the Organizer, I think you would have to use Windows to rename...

I've never had any problems with any site I've downloaded brushes from... mainly I look for good high resolution brushes. If a site shows a preview of the brushes with a number beneath the preview, that usually is the size (in pixels) of the brush. The larger, the better quality, when used in images you intend to print.
If you are a subscriber at Photoshop Elements Techniques, there are ...

I have followed all instructions read on the forum for making an image background transparent, but nothing works for me. I need to insert an image into a word document. There is a blue background in the word document, and the image is black and white. I import the image into Elements, double click the background layer, rename it Layer 0, select the white parts of the image, and delete them. The ...

Hi Darlene, I have the same DVD and have not explored it all yet.
I cannot help with the codec, over my head.
But I went and investigated - lots of great stuff on there.
All 49 of the Killertips
Lots of the recent Videos - did not count - but a lot.
And 6 volumes of Pdfs.
Hope you get your DVD going.
BTW - I did not get any push to get Nero or anything.
Happy Thanksgiving!

You didn't tell us how much memory you have installed. ("4048 PC6400 dual Channel RAM" is meaningless to me, and there are no units given ... I want to know how many mega/giga-bytes of memory you have)
Simply installing PSE cannot slow your computer down. Running PSE may make your computer slow while it is running, depending on a lot of factors, but that's not what you said.
Have you ...

You should save to your "download file" the file will be zipped. Then go to the download file and find the zipped file, unzip. When unzipped and opened right click the font a drop down will open and click on install. This is all assuming you are using vista.

Welcome, Elaine.
You may want to watch some beginner videos on Elements.
All versions are pretty much the same.
Important you learn the terminology, the tools, what they do and where to find them.

There are 3 bicubics, regular, smoother and sharper. Generally smoother is better for enlargements, sharper for reductions and regular works best for images with gradients in it. If you are doing graphics with large, solid colors ,like a logo, I suggest using either gif or png. The jpg compression routines can do funny things to solid colors, especially reds.
I would also guess that sizing ...

I did try just adding 2 extra letters the same color as my background but they gave me a little more space than I wanted. I guess a letter takes up more space than an actual 'space'? So, I guess if you really wanted 2 spaces, for instance, and used 1 letter (instead of 2) you may get the look you're going for. I'll give it a try and report back.
