Grease fittings on 2005 Elantra?

Seriously? You shouldn't mod a car if you can't stand to hit TWO grease fittings with grease every oil change or so. You'd die if you had a truck with half a dozen or so to grease up.

Tranny Service - Dealer only?

Didn't mean an insult by that, but the way your post was structured (either Hyundai service or a local shop) I figured you don't have a place where you can do it yourself. So that was more of an indirect question, should've probably expressed myself better on that one...

No flush is required. In fact, many US dealers DON'T EVEN HAVE FLUSH MACHINES. Drain and fill every 25-30k and the trans will last a long life.

what do you mean can't make it myself? I only asked about the filter because both of my Mercedes have tranny filters. I didn't think the transmission was just a drain and refill job. I was under the impression that it was done with a machine that flushes the system under pressure as well as use some kind of cleaner along with the oil. Surely this cant be as involved as when I changed the timing belt, and if it was a DIY job I'd...

Judging by your post, you definitely can't make it yourself. But here's a few pointers:
Any shop could do it, you just need to use oil that's known to be good, not something that is good because it's cheap. There is no filter on your tranny, simple draining via draining plug and then refill from the top refill plug. You can see the bolts here http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/show...65&...

C is the fill bolt (17 mm). The drain bolt is under the transmission, near the driver axle, and IIRC is 24 mm, so you really can't miss it. What bolt did you drain from?

Did the mechanic say what exactly got damaged? Because if it's mostly the frame and body parts (so engine is fine, you said airbags didn't blow etc) you could get some cash, yea... But I think the biggest question would be if you're ready to hassle with parting it out and willing to spend time removing things one by one (as demand arises).

Nope. Unless you have aftermarket ball joints or tie rods that came with grease fittings.

I am currently stationed in the UK, and I did indeed bring my 05 Elantra GT (auto) over here as they have Hyundai dealerships under the assumption they would be able to fully service my vehicle. Unfortunately though it is about time for my 30/36K transmission flushing, and the dealership over here is completely clueless as to what I am in need of. Luckily the auto trans fluid is universal so I ...

I' d change plugs, maybe wires. That's usually step 1 in curing rough idle. Your wife's car is definitely due to have the plugs changed.
