At this point in the training year, if you are on teaching experience, you are probably feeling quite stressed and under intense pressure from all the planning, marking and assignments. So what to do? Remember first off that you are not the only person who is 'hitting the wall'. All trainees (and there are up to 40,000 of you nationally) will be feeling hard pushed to eat sleep, work and succeed. There can be strength in numbers. 1....

saira123: Hi It sounds to me that although your practice was difficult, your mentor and uni wern't very supportive. in fact not at all, they should have been helping and giving you suggestions rather than negative criticism. have you considered starting again at another university? I agree, you should never have been in a position where they suggested you leaving the course out of the blue. They should have raised...

No you can't. Teaching is a graduate profession, so you either need to have a bachelor's degree (not foundation degree) already or you have to complete one at the same time. If your friend has 240 CATS score, equivalent to two years of undergraduate study like HND, RTP (Registered Teacher Programme) may be possible where you study for a degree at the same time as working as unqualified teacher in school. It takes two years....

Try contacting your PGCE university often the careers services provide advice for recent graduates, or if you are near London the London University Careers Group provide such a service. There are useful careers guides also on www.prospects.ac.uk

There is no age limit. The oldest person I ever accepted onto the PGCE course I run was 58 when he began in 2003. A successful Solicitor with his own business, he decided to sell up and 'give something back to society'. He is still teaching (Citizenship and English), now aged 65, in a challenging inner city comprehensive, and thoroughly enjoying himself. He claims that working with...

Thank you James, for your helpful advice. I shall get a factual reference from the university and to be honest I do have doubts so I think withdrawal is my best option. John.

Most people have had to prepare presentations for their jobs so if you ask them to think about how long it takes them to prepare a presentation, and that you have to do x number every day for 5 days, they usually start to understand why it takes so long. You could get them to try it for themselves if that fails!

Notice periods are the half term prior to the end of term so you have missed the slot for January and the next date is end of February for an Easter finish. The union advice was incorrect you are not barred from further assessments You are assessed on each term so these are "banked" and carried over to other schools. However you need to be very careful about leaving during induction....

Hi J, I've just seen your post and I understand everything you are feeling 100%. Everyone told me I was doing really well, and I was, nothing has 'gone wrong' as it were but I still had the same horrible feelings you have described, even to the point of hoping to have a minor bump in the car to avoid school, hoping for extreme snow at home or something, so I know exactly how you feel....

I know how u feel, i'm also a science PGCE, and even though u give the kids the warning, they dont listen. i often feel like i need another few sets of eyes and ears to be able to keep track of wat everyone's doing. kids seem to have this ability to do stuff when ur not watching because your focused on another pupil. its so difficult and your expected to do practicals cose the kids ...

I really sympathise with what u have said i myself was in a similar situation a quite a while back but i did know that i wanted to teach and eventually have gotten onto a pgce- but hey this is about you. If you dont decide to do the course what will you do instead? you should never do something you are not sure about otherwise you may live your life hating your job and being stressed....

Hi You are ' hitting the wall' and getting to grips with your teaching, planning marking and all the other pressures is difficult. It does get better and the stresses and pressures will shift. Teaching will never be an 'easy' job. With your planning you must get to a point which is satisfactory children's learning and your teaching. No lesson will ever be perfect and you can always ...

Hi Sarah, I sat my tests last week and passed them all first time, phew! I didn't book mine on the same day simply because I couldn't. I even had to go to two different test centres because they were so busy! I think I would have been fine to do ICT and Literacy on the same day but I was quite nervous about Numeracy so did that one first to get it out of the way. To hopefully give ...

Hi Michelle. Sorry to hear that you are feeling unwell, I hope I can help. I think teaching is a profession that demands a great deal from us all and I also used to feel like this but you can get used to it and the pressure can ease and ease as you grow more and more into the role. It sounds a little like you are coming up to the crossroads. Straight on being you stick at it and ...

Me again. And just so you're ready for the annual circuit of recruitment fairs, the first ones I'm aware of are: 26 October UEA 27 Oct Canterbury 28 Oct Plymouth, Greenwich 29 Oct Anglia Ruskin Nov 3 Cambridge Those are the first ones of the year; Chichester are usually in half term week as well, but I haven't heard a date from them yet. I'll be at most of them, but Greenwich ...

Dear Paul I'm sorry to hear about this stressful situation. The first thing to establish is whether or not your brother have actually withdrawn completely from the PGCE or if he has taken a break (sometimes called intermission) or has just been absent for the past two weeks. If it is the former - complete withdrawal, then there is little that can be done from the university side as ...

Hi,
It depends on what your household income will be for the year that you take your PGCE. So if your partner/parents etc earns under £25,000 (I think), you are entitled to a full student loan, a loan towards your tuition fees and a maintanance grant which is over £1000 of free money!. I struggled the first time or two with the practice tests. Like you sometimes the pictures did not appear, www browser wouldn't connect etc... but at the test centre it seemed to work fine. I got myself in a 'muddle' with one section of the spreadsheets part in the actual test and gave up with that bit, but still passed it. (1st time - what a relief!) Practising did make a big ...
