Hi there, My background is also in science and have been roped into teaching Health and Social Care. One website that I have found helpful is Helenhudspith.co.uk.  Plenty of ready made powerpoints to use with some activities and worksheets.  Not much on video or clips.   Thank you freddie

Published (2009-11-25 17:57:00)
Girlfrommars - I emailed Brain about this and she tried to clarify (though i'm still confused!!) - from what I gather it means where relevant students will be expected to know the stuff from AS in detail. So if they have studied it before they should know all the AS stuff + the A2 stuff relating to it i.e. SLT they should know from AS but at A2 they should now be able to use their knowledge of what it is and apply it to...

Hi there,   I am doing BTEC first, unit 1, 2 and 5. I only started, have no clue yet. Found a really nice girl on TES who sent me some of her stuff. I teach Humanities in addition. Anything that we could possibly swap?   Best regards, Romy

Thanks Gremlin, it sort of helps but I thought they only had to specialise in 2 approaches. I will skim over the other the others. Can't see how cognitive will be relevant though. Thanks a lot for putting my mind at rest.

If sociology is not a science, prove it!! My sociology degree is a BSC! Actually that is also a popular question on the A2 exam paper.   I agree we should all be subject specialists and have good subject knowledge, after all is that not one of the standards qualified teachers have to meet? I do feel sorry for anyone having to teach a subject they are not qualified in and i would find teaching MFL a nigtmare! To teach...

The day will consist of interactive workshops given by experienced teachers and examiners on a variety of topics relevant to NQTs.  There will be plenty of opportunity to network with like minded professionals.  The exact programme is still to be...

I also teach unit 14 diagnosis and treatment of disease - does anyone know why the AQA website with past exam papers can no longer seem to be accessed?  Just listed as 'page not found' Past exam questions and associated text book are extremely out of date in terms of diagnostic imaging; by at least 6-8 years!!!! Has anyone else found this?

How about giving the students a "bad" experiment to look at and criticise, after which they can identify what would make a "good expt" - they could then redesign the original expt. This is interactive for the students. Your worst lesson should always be something which wasn't really your fault, yet which you can still reflect upon and do things differently if that situation arose again...

Oh my god i've not noticed that! I assumed that they just needed to know two explanations of criminal behaviour (SLT and one other). Can't help you at the moment as obviously hadn't seen that but will join you in requesting help. Which bit exactly might they need to draw on the other approaches for? It is explanations or treatments as where it says about drawing on the other approaches...

if you can join the BPS as then you get the journal, which is excellent for current research and thinking. I also find the Psychology Review (aimed at A level students) useful for keeping up to date (though it is not as current as BPS journal). The BBC Health pages often report new research findings as well. Today they have an article on treatments for depression with CBT now favoured ...

Unfortunately don't have any exemplar essays but with regards to marking we have been marking in a similar way to the old unit 5?? So for evaluative material we are looking for ...

1. Which exam boards offer Btec? It is Edexcel 2. What level of entry? is there even a level of entry? Level 1 (GCSE G-D) Is BTEC Introductory You are probably being asked to do level 2 (GCSE C-A*) Which is BTEC First. The First Certificate is worth 2 GCSEs the First Diploma worth 4. Your head will probably want you to teach the diploma to get the school's 5A*-Cs rating up! 3....
