I think there was a rapid fall-off for a while when the new screen interface was introduced. Folowing criticism, however, improvements were made and many old hands came back. I may be wrong, but I doubt that the TES Forum is now the first port of call for MFL teachers. Forums come and go in general. A popular forum can suddenly become the victim of fashion and many people leave. I subscribe to over 20 different discussion lists, forums,...

HI we do Spanish GCSE in 2 yrs, with the pupils only have studied minimal Spanish at KS3. In Year 10 Pupils are crammed with vocab and work at foundation level (we do AQA linear). Then in Y11, once they have the basics, they are pushed at higher. We only suggest that those who are really capable of working hard take Spanish. We use Listos 3 for AQA. Verde in Y10 and Rojo in Y11. The ...

Hi, Just posted on another topic but the same film would be good for you - Entre Les Murs is a cert 15 and deals with physical violence between pupils, but also undercurrents of tension between pupils, and pupils and their teacher. Had good results with a small group I tutor with the movie, can be bought on Amazon

Not sure about KS3 Spanish- I'll be showing my year 11s pan's Labyrinth at some point. But for French Taxi 2 is a great silly action film (rated 12) and Les Choristes (also 12) is a very good story set in a school for badly behaved boys. I bought 'Mounsieur N.' simply because it is also a 12 in French the other day but have yet to watch it- about Napoleon. Hope this helps

cardiganlover: We're really keen on introducing a language asap. I know this may mean a delay in her speech and I'm not a native speaker so it won't be perfect, but we want to give it a try. Why would you want to introduce a second language before the child is even vaguely competent with their own? I honestly don't get it at all.

I am not sure what you mean by a Virtual Learning Centre. Is this a multimedia learning lab of some sort? It sounds a bit like the Lyondell Centre at Cox Green School, Maidenhead, or the Brealey Centre at St George's College, Sleaford - both of which date back a good few years and would probably look a lot different now if they were designed from scratch. See: ICT4LT Module 3.1: http...

Hi Helen im getting to grips with the new GCSE but im not sure i understand why the students hae to do their writing assessment in one hour and cannot be broken down in 2 sessions it is a disadvantage to least able students and as it is their actual exam, i think AQA should give them the best opportunity to get the best grades doing the task planning sheet is helping but still...

Yes, try here: Section 4.1, Module 3.5 at the ICT4LT site (which I edit). It's all about speech synthesis. I list links to several TTS sites: http://www.ict4lt.org/en/en_mod3-5.htm#synthesis Acapela, Speakonia and TTS Voice Engine can handle Spanish. Regards Graham

You don't say which language or if it's any year group in particular. Please feel free to have a read of my blog www.changing-phase.blogspot.com where I have some ideas for presenting and practising new vocabulary. Online flashcards might be a good way to go. Have you considered teaching phonics to overcome the pronunciation problem ? It really does help to be able to refer ...

GroovyGuzi: Do people in Scunthorpe also have problems when they write about their town? Obviously not, as the TES seems to like them! Quite agree about Blogger though and the filter needing to be tweaked! Is there anybody out there listening?
