If you start by sharing targets and success criteria at the beginning, then constantly revisit these, then in the plenary go back once more to ISP targets and success criteria, with children using afl strategies and target cards, and 80% + assess that they have made progress then you might be able to tick the box. That seemed to be what did it for our inspectors under the new framework. You literally have to spell it out for them...

In all honesty, I am not sure how much they rely on evidence - a large part of it is basically impressionistic.

subject inspection - focus PSHCE

Thank yo Curlygirly! We had a staff meeting about what they might ask today and am actually feeling a little more positive about it now. We've had some SEAL training this year and can talk about how we are developing the things that are not in place yet. Surely if we have identified the areas of need and have plans to address them we will not be slated too much. Interesting thing we have found out just lately is the fact that we were...

Monitoring Visit experience

Neighbouring school just had theirs. They came on day 11 of 20. Two inspectors for a large primary (approx 650 children). One came just to look at the EYFS, which was a target for improvement after the previous inspection, the other looked at the rest of the school. They observed between them four lessons formally, and 'dropped in' to most classes. Interviews were held with SMT, the SIP, some governers and quite a few middle...

Inspection evidence

ofsted_r_only_human: This suggestion doesn't seem credible to me. Sadly, this is not a "suggestion". The teacher concerned is now out of work thanks to the action of the OFSTED inspector concerned. I'm not prepared to say more, as the NUT are already involved and I fully expect legal action to be taken in due course. Just be VERY careful about what you write here - OFSTED inspectors...

florian gassmann: Just be VERY careful about what you write here - OFSTED inspectors clearly monitor these forums. This is clearly good advice. This is a public forum. Huge numbers of people interested in Education follow these forums. Of course this will include inspectors. I can understand headteachers being tipped off about staff with a grievance venting their anxieties here in rather too...

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I agree wholeheartedly with your two keys to success. One would hope that these would help secure at least a "good" judgement. My feeling is however, that this would be now more dependant on the context of your school. This thread is all about the change in focus under the new framework. My opinion on our inspection way back in...

HT and SLT should be told at the end of the inspection, just before the inspectors run quickly to their cars!

Notice for Ofsted inspections
Published (2009-11-24 18:06:00)
Hi, I hope you're both doing well? To be honest, the advice Liz gave me (see earlier post) was really useful. Speaking with regards to my experience they looked through a few books, spoke to children and observed me teach. The feedback they gave was useful and to be honest the waiting period was much worse than the actual event. I wish you all the best (make sure you have wine and chocolate waiting after) Good Luck! Let us...

Possibly. It happened to me. I was DHT (been there for 1 year). HT had been there for 20 years. HT got her marching orders and acting HT put in place. Substantive HT was then appointed. He started just before we got out of Special Measures but he still got the glowing thanks from County. One of his first acts was to make me redundant. It was hard at the time but I managed to get another...

This sounds too much like advanced paranoia. This suggestion doesn't seem credible to me. Even though I am not involved in the lastest type of inspections, I can't see any purpose in what is described here. It isn't in an inspector's brief to 'get' teachers. I dont believe that any inspector sees individual teachers as a 'target' in any sense of the word. They seek to appraise the work ...

When were you inspected prior to this latest one? Was it at about the 3 year gap in between or sooner - was the inspection triggered by time or by results do you think? Cheers Clive

I would've thought it would be essential for your CPD if you are to improve your practice.

Hi there Dusty Just had ours- exactly same as you - monitoring - but we are Special measure with 20 day notice. Actually, sounded like a life sentence but at least it is over now and we can enjoy Christmas. We are a big comp- had 4 (5?) on the team, lots of lesson obs (most of these were around 30 mins) and I know they spoke to a number of staff . We have worked so hard that I...

There is nothing in the schedule or guidance to say that NQTs should not be observed. Expect to be observed along with all the other staff.
