medicare is "socialized medicine". taxpayer funded, single payer system with an age 65 requirement--just get rid of the age 65 condtion. Here is what President elect Obama says about your idea. President-elect Barack Obama pledged Wednesday to tackle out-of-control Social Security and Medicare spending and named a special watchdog to clamp down on other federal programs If Medicare is out of control...

why are uaw retirees treated as if they are more important than white collar workers? where do i start? in free countries people like some levels of democracy and some even go far as to think they should have a small voice in the place where they spend most of their working lives. they join unions and while unions do not have veto power they can require that the employer listen and can serve as a check on management...

I'm behind today and skimming fast, but I'm seeing a lot of comments that look more like political attacks and attacks on lawyers and doctors than UAW related comments.

Look, this is the typical UAW auto worker. Says who? Is he black? Is that the average pay? The mean, median or mode? That was put out there to get the very reaction your showing. Since, its written it, must be gospel. Ya just can't believe everything you read. Joe the plumber isn't making $150,000 a year either. I just have that feeling.

earlier in this thread there were a lot of references to 1998 and the UAW vs GM strike. i really think as far as the healthcare issues go, there have been a lot of medical advances and that coupled with the good continuous medical care has resulted in the retirees living a lot longer than anyone projected.

Yep, they are '61 Fords, and I don't know if they used Tudors because of the weight or some stock classification rule that they needed to satisfy. I would think that aerodynamics count for quite a bit on the salt flats for certain classes (hence the belly tank laketers of the 50's)>

In a recent billing for an outpatient procedure my wife had done at a large hospital, they had billed for hundreds, I'm thinking $700-$800 for one part; they were paid $23 or something of that order by our insurance company. >I feel the individual should be responsible for their own health care. I like that philosophy. >The government places limits on what doctors and hospitals can charge,...

Each franchisee still gets products to sell. GM only has to focus on great design and products for Chevy and Caddy. Other brands get new badges and nothing else. GM consolidates brand HQs into the Chevy division, since they're only rebadges of Chevies. Take that idea a little farther. A town about 20 miles from me has a Chevy dealer and a Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealer about one ...

It is a 98 instead of the usual 88. It's difficult to tell and most people don't think of the 98 as possibility.

This is a timely topic. The details will be worked out IF the proposal moves forward, but the talk is of a loan, with interest, to be repaid, not a bail out in the form of a conservatorship, a la Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Unlike with the giant mortgage institutions, the U.S. government will not take an ownership stake in the domestic auto companies, but lend them money, perhaps $50 ...

It could be one of those later GM supercharged 3.8s. Didn't those get up to 260 hp? I doubt if they'd be very economical though, unless you went easy on them. Don't they need premium too though?

One thing that seems certain to happen whether or not the domestics get their bailout is that we will lose a lot of dealerships this year and next, and almost all will be domestic dealers. Indeed, this seems to be almost fortuitous for all three U.S. automakers, who need so desperately for their dealer networks to shrink. On the news tonight, they announced that here in California in ...

I agree, it is a bit confusing. Also, will the Volt be built on it's own platform or shared with other vehicles in its lineup even though it's a plug in hybrid? The regional brands and models will be differentiated by powertrains, safety features, standard equipment and chassis tuning. Vehicles will share sheet metal with models sold in other regions, Mertens said. This statement...
