Real Yield on TIP?

Vanguard VWIUX

Getting closer to that picture of kook-aid I had VG run an analysis of what I want to invest and they came up with VWIUX as my major player. I had been looking at Wellesley but VWIUX is tax free and appears less risky. I would have very little in the over 15% bracket, but I'm just not smart enough to determine how good a deal this might be. Doesn't anyone have this and care to make a comment. Thanks

I have been looking through yahoo's etf screener recently to see which funds had the best performance in the last few months. Not surprisingly nearly every fund was an Ultrashort or short fund. Does anyone know if any other etf's which could provide for an upside in a market when it is down. I looked at BND -Vanguard total Bond Market which i like, but isn't there JUST ONE, mutual fund, ETF, or stock which thrives in adversity ?...

The one Bear market fund I have used in the past is BEARX. It's a short/long fund, did pretty well during this downturn (+27% in 2008) and the previous one (+63% in 2002). But what I like about it is that in good times it sometimes can avoid getting killed like the rest of the bear funds (it was actually up in 2005/2006/2007 thanks to a healthy stake in gold) so it allows a bit of give in your timing. Still, I don't hold it...

OSM is trading below 18 which is a real YTM of nearly 6%. This is a very attractive return for a fixed income instrument. The risk to a buy and hold investor, of course, is that SLM defaults on its debt. Here's what I'm thinking. SLM shareholders vote on the proposed deal August 15. IMO, they will approve the deal at 60, given SLM is currently trading around 48, which will force Flowers' ...

I am going to put my money where my mouth is and to prove it to you, I am going to publicly announce a move that I will make later this week. Since I don't think there can be any good news for stocks in the next few weeks (the current administration has shot its wad and the next administration doesn't mount the problem until late in January), I am going to look at the short side of the market....

Sold my small business at years end and now have some money to invest and use the dividends to help with living expenses. I won't be eligible for SS until the end of the year. I've been researching different strategies for awhile and have come up with Wellesley Income Fund (VWIAX) or Vanguard Life-Cycle (VASIX). Is anyone familiar with these and would you care to comment. I trying to ...

Hey, I am curious to know if there are any obvious problems with my plan... JDO for the past few days has traded between .02 and .03. If I thought it would do the same tomorrow (.02 low and .03 high), is it easy to set up a limit buy and limit sell for those amounts? I'm thinking maybe the order wouldn't go through because of low volume or something. I've never day traded, and I just ...

Auto Bailout posted by Adam Levitin TARP funds are now going to be used to bail out the auto industry. Whether or not this is ultimately a good or responsible idea is something that I will reserve comment on for now. The loans' term sheet isn't out yet, but it's outlines are being reported: $13.5bn now, callable on March 30 (conveniently on the Obama administration's watch) if the ...
