The upper kingpin bearings are (very) low speed bearings. Like Jim said, if they are packed upon assembly, I don't think there's an issue. My hubs are usually locked at least once a month anyhow..

I am likely to stubborn for my own good sometimes I totally agree that Packing the knuckle bearings, knuckle pudding and locking hubs work with no apparent side effects on the model 18 t-case. For the way I drive flanges and 140wt work well for me, As always its great to share opinions with fellow jeepers as there is always someting to learn or a fresh perspective.

Stock spring height?
Published (2009-01-05 12:22:00)
I have the 1" superlifts (reqiure you to swap out the "c" shackles to a modern type). but they sit pretty close to stock height, added 700x 16s and gained 1" clearance under the axles. Order new stock u bolts cause the superlifts are a larger diameter and reqiure you to drill out the spring plate holes, also had to make longer threads on the ubolts to allow for a shorter spring pack with the superlifts. Yea they are plastic and one screw grounds through the metal, but i made sure it was getting a perfect ground and re-sodered to make sure. its just the bulbs wont flash when the turn signal is flipped on, it blinks when the hazard lever is pulled however-very strange. I know its not the connections inside the signal-stat either because i checked. I guess i just have to keep fiddling around or something.

I was just curious. I don't know how fast mine will run, I haven't had it on the road yet. I had allways heard that 45 mph is cruising speed with these pups. I grewup with a 3a back in the mountains of W,Va, but we never took it off of our mountain farm. Here in Ohio, I don't have those old dirt roads to lumber on, it's black top around here. AFAIK, It's just a bowl gear, but I'd go email Herm... hermtheoverdriveguy.com 3B page has info concerning conversions http://www.film.queensu.ca/cJ3B/Tech/Overdrive.html Almost to the bottom Herm talks about spline count. He's a good guy

Ok I have a question concerning overdrives. I have an old warn 6 spline overdrive out of a 1946 dana 18 but would like to install it into my 10 spline dana 18. Do I need a new unit altogether or do I just need a new bowl gear?

If I installed a set of lockouts on my CJ3A, do you think that would gain me any topend speed? I don't mean 20 mph or anything, I mean instead of 45 mph, you might get 50, or won't it make any difference? Thanks in advance.

Im in the market for some aftermarket leafs, but want to stay with the stock height. I know superlift offers a 1" lift, but i'd rather see if anyone knew where i could get some regular ones. jeep will see 45/45/10 street/wheelin/hiway. Would the superlifts work anyway, or look silly? thanks

Rebuilt D18 and still had leak at rear yoke. Did a search and read many of the suggestions of using a double seal and using RTV on the spline. Did just that. Also read that some have cut the felt seal in half when using two seals and some had not. I did not and when I re-tourqued the yoke to 100 ft lbs I could not turn by hand as I could before with the transfer case in the neautral positions. I...

Well since this jeep has been assembled back in June it's turned close to 9000 miles since we drove cross country. It has been my daily driver taking me to and from my college probably a half dozen times this fall (400 mi round trips each time). I'm trying to buy back my overdrive from herm (got it repaired) so if you can't already guess where this is going, the hedmans to cherry bombs aren't ...

Does anyone know if there is a spacer between the crank oil slinger and the crank timing gear on an L134 with a timing chain? I do know that there is one with the timing gear setup. I just cannot remember nor find where I would have placed it during this rebuild. V/R DJ

While installing rings on the last piston on my f head rebuild I broke the second ring- crapola!! Do you know of a supplier that sells rings as a piston set, not as an engine set? I'm looking for middle ring (notched on outside of ring)- STD size. I guess I'll have some extras after buying another complete engine set, unless I can find a supplier for one set. I bought them from Walcks ...

If my axles have no tags on them what is the best way to determine what the gear ratio is. I thougt you could jack up one tire and count the rotations of the drive shaft compared to the tire. But when I do this my tire turns one revolution compared to about two and a half on the drive shaft. That can't be right can it. Could I be doing this wrong?
