We normally have the boot/OS on a separate drive & the data on the RAID array. Do you know how slow this is going to make your machine? Why do you want to put the OS on a RAID 5 Array>

Ok well I dont think I will need two drives if I'm honest. I'm guessing this is the better one of the two: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...tid=10&subcat= Can anyone agree with that?

Yeah, so far enjoying the results! I would run HDtune, but IIRC its not good for SSDs. I'll have to look into it again.

Yep, I believe it should work fine. Just make sure you plug it in the right way.

Have you tried the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool V2.1.8
Not sure if it works in Vista or 7 though.
This might be a newer version, but it does not have Vista or 7 listed:

It looks alright, it's pretty slow but on par with a normal older HDD. What are your plans for the drive?

What speed do the rapors get? I know that 2 SSD'd d*mn near hit 500Gb/s and the fact that the seek time on a SSD is non existent is where it really shines

Most of the lappy HDD uses adapters to fit the different slots on different motherboards. See if you can remove yours, since it actually seems like you have these.
Additional Comment:
Confirming, the only laptop IDE drive I have uses an adapter to plug into the motherboard.
Ive seen it on SATA drives too.

You are confusing hard drive speed with port speed. Mechanical hard drives do not exceed 120-130 MB/sec, and at the inside of the HDD (as you fill it up, the data goes from the outside to the inside) they drop as low as 40MB/s.

no, if you want to change RAID types, the drives must be formatted.

Looks like Windows is enforcing PIO mode, and I cannot set it to DMA. Is there a way to counter this? I cannot change it in the Device Manager, as it is only "DMA if available" or "PIO mode", and it does not take DMA.

Just move the files onto your main HDD. They should still work.

I would like two hard drives if possible, one for the vital stuff to boot up the PC and another large HDD for my date.
Only reason...

Theoretically, it's possible, however, it's not a good idea, as the OS needs to do the proper offset.
