Not Holliday.....
Published (2009-11-29 07:31:00)
Thats a great idea, I think you forgot or didnt know that Halladay isnt a FA so we would have to trade for him and since we arent stacked with tons of prospects and the idea that he is owed 15.75mil for next year doesnt excite me either. A lot of other teams have tried to acquire halladay but Toronto has a high asking price for the 2003 Cy Young award winner. Im sure our top two pitching prospects plus a position player and still take on his...

Cardinals looking at Tejada
Published (2009-12-04 18:34:00)
I also like the thought of Tejada, depending on price and length. His power numbers are down, but he is still a good run producer at third.

3B option...but a trade
Published (2009-12-02 17:01:00)
No way they the Tigers are trading him. I think somebody like a Joe Crede could help this team. Solid defense and some pop in his bat. Yeah, I've heard that Detroit is VERY interested in trading him. They are trying to dump the salary. I must admit, it would be nice ... but I don't think the redbirds can afford it ... and i think it would be counterproductive for the Tigers to assume a lot of his salary in the trade....

Nothing different. You sound surprised. They know their limits and they are not trying to push it. For a team like Cards, it is simply risky to give out A-Rod like contracts. Even I, like you, want the team to sign Pujols or Holliday (maybe not that much) at any cost, but in reality having one or two players take up 40% of the payroll is very expensive and risky for the team.

Chone Figgins
Published (2009-12-04 22:53:00)
I dont think there is anyone desperate enough to sign figgins to a 3-4 year deal at anything more than 7 million per. He is due to be 32 in about a month and a 4 year deal wold put him at 36. He had a career year last year and stayed healthy. I take that back after reading this article http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?post=4481558&name=levine &#160 ; If this comes to be he will get a 4 yr deal at 40 million. ...

Prince Fielder screwed out of...

I did some random polling amongst family members and friends at work. Only 20%, or 2 out of 10, felt that Pujols deserved the MVP over Prince. To be honest, these 2 people also don't happen to know very much about baseball either. That's neither here nor there, though. At any rate, 20% is a very low percentage and a sure-fire indication that this election had to have been fixed, rigged or whatever you prefer to call it.

I'd like to add to wingate's post by saying it would be an insult to Dave. He's more professional than that.

We have problems
Published (2009-12-04 15:07:00)
It seems to me, we have problems. I take it for granted at this stage that we will not have Holliday, DeRosa, Glaus or Pineiro in our team. This means certain things: 1.) We only have to good quality outfielders: Rasmus and Ludwick, and neither one is really great. Thus, to be contenders, we need to find at least one good offensive hitter for the outfield. 2.) The left side of the infield is weak. We have neither a S.S. or 3B that can be...

I think your right, figgins is a career .291 hitter and consistently swipes 40 bags and had a career high 101 walks last year on top of what you said, he plays excellent defense and can play 2b,3b,CF,LF, or even RF and hasnt had a salary over 6 million a year. I could be mistaken but I think Lugos getting around 9 mil. Its not rocket science to say figgins would be a great fit in st louis. Not to...

If they can get him cheap I wouldnt be against it, if he can duplicate his avg. from last year, and as long as they end up with somebody with some power in the OF.

Wow. Long time. Marquis had excellent defense behind him. A reason why he did so well considering that he is a groundball pitcher?

don't hate the idea, but it's not what the team needs. If they can't pull out holliday or bay tho i don't see what options we have. Trading would be the worst move possible because we have nothing to shop and our top prospects are basically un-tradeable because we need them to step up and fill holes in our roster. Craig is probably the only trade bait we have right now because we don't need a 1B ...

Detroit gave a ton to get him and Willis, they are gonna want a ton in return....Cards don't have it. Plus, why would Detroit trade him?

If they can get him for less than $8 mil/yr for couple of yrs, its a great deal.

Why in the world would anyone want a career minor leaguer. First off Shelly has proven only one thing throughout his career....that he cant hit MLB pitching. Yea he hit 30 HR last year in AAA but when he has been given the chance with the Yanks he has bombed and thats even been when NY needed OF's due to injurys. Not to mention hes 30 and plays defense about like his brother. Why would you want ...

What would be the upside or the idea that Crosby would be brought in. He has only had more than 360 AB's twice in his 7 year career. The two years he did get 500+ AB's his BA were .239 and .237. You can argue he hit 22 HR's in 2004 but he also struck out 141 times and had a OBP of.319. Not to mention he will be looking for a 5-7mil a year deal. Ive said it once already today and Il say it again ...
