I am not sure if what captnphysics states is entirely true, but I do have to agree with his last paragraph...Staal stinks...now that he has a "reasonable" contract for the "percieved future greatness" that some have errantly bestowed on Staal, lets hope this makes him tradeable for something the Pens need... This kid has no above average skills...shooting, passing, stick handling, scoring, hitting, defense, faceoffs...why...

Not true.  Lindros never punched an opponent in the beanbag while one of his teammates was holding onto him.

i dont think signing a 16 mil dollar contract will magically make him a faster and more coordinated skater.  The physical tools arent there and if i see him on the powerplay one more time im gonna scream

I dont see Shero doing anything. Just as when Eddie O was the coach and a highly paid team was doing bad CP waited way to long to do anything.

Yeah you're right. I don't know how good Nashville is but they are probably better than Atlanta. Why couldn't the Pens play that way against the Rangers and Bruins? Are both teams that much better?  Nashville is below average.  Somewhere between Atlanta and the Rangers.   And yes, the Rangers are much better than Atlanta, and the Bruins are much better than the Rangers.  My fault about my typing. I meant are the Rangers...

To the OP: Last time I checked, a backup goalie with a save % of .902 was ideal. It's the GAA that's the problem, which means that the Pens are allowing too many shots. Offense contributes directly to this problem as we are often unable to sustain pressure in the other team's end. Dump and chase and cycling do not work when that's all you know how to do!

Afinogenov is 29, and will be 30 by the start of next year, and has been in the league for 9 years, not exactly young.  And he has gotten plenty of shots on the top two lines, he hasn't played on one in two years because of his poor work ethic.    Compared to the 35 year old Satan, I'd say Afinogenov would be the better of the two. You don't consider 29 to be young???   How old are you 12 ?!?? Those "shots" on...

I, for one, am glad.  But I know you guys on the board seem to universally hate him. True, he has not been playing well (but then again, no one has). Still, if he plays to his full potential (as we have seen before), this gives the Pens the best down the middle lineup in hockey.

We've got everybody but Ziggy and Gonch back expect a win tonight against the Preds. They are in a 5 game losing streak and scoring the first goal tonight  will help us win the game. They are the 2nd worst goal scoring team. We are going to have a lot of energy of this win and here's why: Kennedy: We have his energy back. We can finally never be tired. Letang: He can help carry the puck into ...

are any of you Pens fans feeling positively optimistic about playoffs this season?!?! It's only half of the season, but things aren't looking too good for your squad. Seems like a Stanley Cup appearance curse....after lockout all the teams that went to finals have struggled immensely the following season...that is, all except DETROIT.  :)

I just can't. Yeah we scored on the PP and won. However, it was on the worst defensive team in the NHL statistically. We were not even that great; blind and horrible passes. If we do that crap against the Capitals, Flyers, and maybe even the Avalanche we'll lose. Good to see us score on the PP but then again, I would have lost all hope if we didn't.

I understand it's easy to be negative with a recent losing streak and an economy in a recession. However, there are not many teams with a brighter future than the Pens economically and talent wise. Why? Blue Chip Talent. Two young, improving, top 5 NHL scoring talents secured via contract. What other teams have a better All Star forward combination than Crosby and Malkin? Solid Ownership. ...

Did anyone else see Crosby yapping at Shawn Thornton. Crosby is sitting on the bench and he just starts yapping like the p__ussy he is. This guy has to be the biggest baby in the league. He is always b__itching and complaining.

Iam a bruins fan but as a hockey fan i love to watch crosby play, and iam sick in tired of people ripping this poor kid for showing emotion and for being marketed as the face of the league (something that is clearly not his fault!). Ovechkin and Malkin are awsome talents but so is Crosby so please stop comparing the three. Ovechkin is a goal scoring winger while Crosby and Malkin are centers. ...

Maybe Shero checks the boards and he needs some insight before he pulls the trigger. Let's line him some candidates. I can think of plenty of people (and animals) that can coach better than MT. But who would work? Throw out some names and their history.

Talbot - Crosby - ? Sykora - Malkin - Fedy Kennedy - Staal - Cooke Dupuis - Zigo - Godard Gonchar - Orpik Whitney - Letang Gill - Scuds Fluery There is one gap there that needs to be filled to go anywhere in the playoffs. I don't think we need a superstar. If we could package Satan & 2 d-men (Boucher, Golgo, Eaton) for a decent physical winger, I think we will be in good hands. If I was ...
