Swish and Nady
Published (2009-01-08 05:03:00)
I want no part of Swisher on this team, but Nady is certainly someone I would look at. He's a free agent next season though, I'd rather wait until then.

i'm not terribly optimistic about pavano, but his signing does provide us with added depth. there is strength in numbers. i wouldn't call our 3-5 options(s/l/j) "pure garbage", esp. lewis. we'll use a lot of starters most likely, considering their history and their option status. huff could still make his case for a position and maybe the FO has higher hopes for a westbrook return than i do. pavano will only...

Andy Marte??
Published (2009-01-06 20:08:00)
I feel bad for him at this point. I was one of the few on here when the trade happened that thought Marte was big time overrated. Nice extra base power - seemed to be able to get on base, but never hit for a high average. He had a huge hole in his swing but he was young (21) and had plenty of time. He was also overrated defensively - could come up with the spectacular play but botched some easy routine ones. He was a project in my opinion - a...

25 man roster
Published (2009-01-08 07:07:00)
Now that the team appears done in free agency and likely done in the trade department, let's take a shot at what the 25-man roster will look like. C- Martinez, Shoppach I thought Vic will play 1B next season. He's still the primary catcher first and foremost. He'll play first base perhaps more frequently than in 2007-8 as I don't see him catching more than 100 games, but he's still the #1 on this team. Shoppach...

Peralta is certainly serviceable defensively and has made an improvement over the last few years if I'm not mistaken . His range is definitely on the lower side of shortstops, but another year there won't kill this team IMO. Given the other options on the team and in the open market, I feel this was a very solid move. he made a huge improvement over 2007. Last year he still made the same number of plays (326) as he did in 2007...

Aubrey DFA'd
Published (2009-01-06 20:58:00)
To make room for Pavano From Rotoworld: Indians designated first baseman Michael Aubrey for assignment. Aubrey,a 2003 first-round pick whose development stalled due to injuries, madehis major league debut last season and went 9-for-45 with two homers intwo stints with the Indians. The power isn't there to make him alegitimate option at first base, and since he turns 27 in April, he'llprobably clear waivers.

But because you bring it up, I will say that any time we are short on cash, I do blame Dolan for most of it, and I don't want to hear that he's doing all he can, whether that's true or not. If you don't have the money to spend at will, you don't own a Major League Baseball team and put the fans through the hardship. This statement is a complete fantasy. Owning a baseball team is a business, none of the owners...

I know I joined in '99, it's in my screen name and the year the Browns came back but my profile says sometime in 2000. These boards used to be the best and quickest way to get updates on what was going on with the new Browns regime

Financially, the Pavano signing looks great. Just $1.5 million for a one-year deal with incentives up to over $5 million. If he pulls a Kevin Millwood, it's a complete steal. If he flops, we only lose out of $1.5 million. By that angle, it looks like a real good move. And I'm still in favor of it. My beef is that we're going to be banking on this guy being our #3 starter for at least half of ...

I have seen his name pop up in trade rumors in a few places. I guess behind Hardy the Brewers have an almost can't miss stud (named Escobar I think) coming up at SS who is almost major league ready. We seem to have a good relationship with the Brewers (snow games and CC deal), and I was wondering what it would take to make this trade happen. I am sure they would want at least one young pitcher to...

Does anyone think we should make a serious run at one of these guys? I'll admit that I'm a little bit partisan when it comes to Swisher, because he's from Columbus and is a Buckeye, but I think either one of them could help us. Yankees obviously will be interested in young pitching, which is one of our strong points. Just a thought, but I just like the fit of either.

How long do we stick with him as the full time DH if he's hitting .230 with average power this year?

I take my hat off to him if he retires because he could not get what he wants. Dodgers could still be the su cker. But they are smart enough not to bite too soon as other contenders backed off real quickly. I still think Manny will end up with a club with a one-year deal before the cactus league starts, and then traded to Indians when we are in the playoff run in August. We have put the ...

If anyone can read the article on the Indians front page about Choo (linked to some Korean newspaper) and explain it to me I would be appreciative. Either they are just making stuff up over in Korea, or USA Today missed the boat a bit in picking its "Dream Team." If anyone can find a link to the USA Dream Team with Choo on it that would be great. Maybe I don't understand Korean.
