Just let Kenny work his magic
Published (2009-01-08 16:44:00)
I doubt very much that KW is done dealing, for the simple reason that what he's got now is a half-rebuilding, half-win now situation. If you're rebuilding you don't keep so many aging, expensive veterans; if you're looking to win now you don't have this many holes and question marks and rookies penciled into starting spots in your lineup and rotation. Two factor that are working against making any significant moves...

Crap - Jay Mariotti is back

Word is breaking all over the sports blogs tonight. Every Chicago sports fans' greatest nightmare is coming true. Jay Mariotti is back with a forum to share his idiotic thoughts: Jay Mariotti Now a Columnist at FanHouse I thought that maybe, just maybe, we had gotten rid of him for good. No such luck. so what do you do? give him free advertising! .... brilliant! spread the word doofus.

Penny and Smoltz to redsox....
Published (2009-01-08 21:03:00)
Cleveland has gotten much better, adding Wood and DeRosa, and Pavano too. Plus they will not likely have the same injury wreckage they did last year (Martinez, Hafner, etc). I think they win the division. Minnesota if you recall had the same record we did, and they get a full year of Liriano now. We took some steps back so I have us 3rd in the division...but I think KW has a plan and we can be really good for a while starting in 2010. And...

1. Predict the winner of ONE of the listed matchups. 2. Once your matchup is final, make another pick and build a streak. Keep in mind, you can make multiple picks each day but you don't have to pick each day if you don't want to. 3. Build a streak of 27 consecutive correct picks by March 31, 2009 and you could win $1,000,000 . The most wins each month receives $2,500 ! www.espn.com/streak C'mon White Sox fans

Floyd - Roberts
Published (2009-01-03 04:36:00)
But by my logic in the previous post ...Floyd and Getz are already fairly cheap,so really all we'd gain by losing Roberts next year would be a couple first round picks like we did with Cabrera..seems to me a good young pitcher like Floyd would be worth more then a few first round picks and some think Getz may very well be an above average player..don't know, maybe K-dub has something cooking!

I recall reading that Beckham's defense isn't all that great. His bat should certainly get him to the majors, but there's a good chance he shifts to a corner infield position. He seems to have the arm strength to handle third. This could also allow for Getz to play second. With that said, I believe it's more likely KW is pursuing Roberts so that the WS can make a world series run sooner. Consider this, you get Roberts at...

Yeah Kenny has been a pretty good GM I'd say. My only gripe with him is that our farm system isn't a little better, but it seems to be improving in the past 2 years or so. I agree. I was real upset that season the club let Carlos Lee and Magglio go well, they really had no choice with Magglio but, anyway I thought how in the world are we going to contend after losing 2 great players and the SOX went on to win the WS. ...

Floyd - Roberts

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say this deal will happen when pigs fly. A team that seems intent on cutting payroll is suddenly going to add three significant salaries, and give up a young pitcher they will control for years? And Perez would be a disaster in the Cell. Just put the outfielders in the bleachers.

Peter Gammons seems to think that Beckham will make an impact this year. I'm not sure if you caught his latest column, but he rattled of names of players with little to no mlb experience that he believed would have an impact in '09. Here's the quote: "So in 2009, we focus not on the names and the celebrity value of additions to clubs, but what Jay Bruce , Ian Stewart , Dexter Fowler , David Price , Cameron Maybin , Max...

I think Kenny should have made a run at either penny or smoltz before the redsox took them. Going into the season with 1 veteran starter, 2 second years, and 2 rookies and one cuban dinosaur may come back to bite us. Low risk, high reward deals are usually kenny's trademark.

He's an underrated GM and makes moves with players that nobody hears of. That's called good scouting. Don't worry about trades or signings I guarantee KW has it all worked out that's why he's the GM for the White Sox and you guy's aren't.

Over on Masn, also MLB Rumors...there is a rumor in the air about Gavin for Brian Roberts...Why would KW do this unless he's figuring on signing a pitcher or two??? I dont buy it,I think Roberts is just signed through next year as well seems to me we'd be better off keeping our young pitcher..Unless KW figures all the young infielders we have will be ready after next year and he thinks Floyd has ...

To introduce myself, I am a Brave but I am also a Twin fan and I just took a vow that I would not directly respond to any trolls over on our board for the rest of the season. However, I was really curious about one thing, so I decided to pose this question to the Sox fans on your board. This guy SteelNeel...you have got to be absolutely annoyed by him right? He never makes any sense with...

Is Beckham good enough to wow everyone in spring training, and compete for the big league club this soon? I see several posters leaning toward Getz if KW does not acquire a veteran. Comments appreciated, particularly those who have happened to see Beckham play since finishing at Georgia. The guy looks like a natural, and just hoping he is that rare cat who doesn't need as much time playing in ...

Manny, his agen, and pale hose reps. were spotted at a hotel in AZ. Do you think they met??? or was this a coincidence???/ I would say there is nothing to it......but then again we did sign Albert Belle years ago when no one thought we would.

More fuel for the crosstown hate war: Cubs gave away Mark DeRosa to the Indians. (Well, OK, they got three prospects. But none of those guys are likely to help their win-now efforts in 2009.) If DeRosa has anything resembling a repeat of his 2008 season the Indians definitely improved themselves for 2009.

I see all these big free agent signing and I start to get irritated that Kenny isn't doing anything. But then I think back to last year at this time. Our only real pickups were Cabrera and Swisher(I don't count Quentin as a big pickup, cause no one knew he was going to be so good). I think most of us were kinda disappointing that, that is all he had up his sleeve. But to be honest, we ended up ...
