Yes I'd say that's a fair analysis. What would you call over achieving? 9-7? 10-6?

it's a free country, i'm allowed to be here if i want. let's see. lose mediocre bowl game to pathetic vanderbilt. coach gets canned. bball loses to harvard. lol does it get worse than being a bc fan? Haven't heard that one since I was six. And had BC not beaten UNC handily in their house, this woudl be the worst month in Boston College history. Easily. Might even still be the worst.

At a micro level I might agree: blame Jags for not honoring the T's and C's of the contract he signed. If BC and DeFilippo are being truthful, that much can't be disputed. But let's go the logical next step: Why would he want out after only two years? Is it simply because he's an NFL guy at heart like people are saying? Or is the head guy (DeFilippo) just not a good guy to work for? If the former, we move on...albeit...

This might sound a bit oversimplified, but without the Harvard loss BC probably needed to simply ' achieve ' in the ACC schedule to get to the NCAAs. With the Harvard loss, BC is back to having to overachieve in order to get there. Is that a fair assumption?

Why do you believe that this is a talented group of players? They are, for the most part, a bunch of average 3-star recruits that happened to collectively play the game of their lives against UNC. At best, they're an average team that will struggle through ACC conference games. You should be thankful that you're no longer in the Big East where we actually play defense!!

These are all legitimate points. As far as Spaziani's charisma or whatever, I don;t think that Tom O'Brien was overflowing in that area and he was a very successful recruiter. Getting Flutie to try and help works fine for me, he's still the most famous football alum and he seems like he'd be happy to help, especially with his nephew still on the team. I personally like the idea of building the program with Spaz and...

1) Hiring Doug Flutie is asinine, unrealistic, and a pipe dream. Flutie has no coaching experience at any level. He would fail, and he would fail miserably, and it would be a black eye again to BC to have to fire it's best-known legend. 2) See my previous post about the most likely candidates both in-house and out of house. 3) If you really want to make some headlines with a hire, hire Major Applewhite. But he would not be the...

Probably a little early to start a thread for the next basketball game but I need to think of something besides the Harvard loss. I strongly believe that the UNC win nullifies the SLU and Harvard losses and vice versa so the Miami game should be some what of a new start. I think Rice comes out, motivated to play another top notch guard in McClinton, and they keep eachother in check. Winning the ...

After a year's absence from the top 25 rankings and reciving only 1 vote at any time last year to be ranked after the win over UNC we went from having no votes to #24 in the ESPN/USA Today Poll (aka Coaches). First time BC Basketball has been ranked since the week of February 12, 2007 when we were #21 (we then lost 3 straight games to UNC, Duke and VT) We'll see what happens in the AP Poll. I ...

you got ranked and then lost to Napoleon and the Dynamites from Harvard? What happened? Did Steve Urkel turn into Stephon "Curry" Urkell and get hot from three? Its this reason the Big East got tired of you guys winning 25 games and Big East tourneys, only to get bounced in the round of 32 every year and let you guys go. When you play in the toughest conference in the country, you have to ...

This guy is a big baby. What is this junior high? Come on like the Jets are going to hire him. You overreacted and look like a total tool. Who would want to coach/work for you? Time to grow up and be big boy Gene! Its a part of coaching and your job like so many others is just a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Deal with it

into college football irrelevance!!! Congratulations; the beagles lose to Vandy in a second-tier bowl game!! Looks like the slide has offically commenced!! Consider that the beagles have, according to Scout, the #78 rated recruiting class. For the most part, Jags has been playing TOB's recruits, except for the freshmen RBs and Davis. Very bad signs for the future of the beagle's football ...

I think we should get off the depressing topic of the Vandy game and look ahead to the basketball game against #1 UNC on Sunday. Obviously, I don't really think we have a great shot in this one. Their offense is just too overpowering. Can Southern really mark Hansborough? One thing is sure, it can't be Rice in a one-man show like last year. BC has to spread out the attack with Trapani, Sanders, ...

I love how BC loses to a 6-6 team who had won 1 bowl game in the history of the world in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl and they don't care because they beat ND at home, who had just lost in 4 OTs the weak before. "Far superior program" is what BC fans will be constantly saying over and over to make themselves feel better. A team who has not won a meaningful bowl in the recent times they...

Understanding that there may be more to this story than we know, DeFilippo has--in the span of 24 hours--turned BC athletics inside out. The Jags thing is plain sad; he seems well-liked and he got BC into two consecutive ACC Championship games. The football team overachieved this year, I submit. So why be so heavy-handed on Jags for merely talking to the Jets? Could we ever expect DeFilippo to ...
