No, I replied to brianroberts question: "Does this mean no Kawakami?" Check out the time stamps. The post quoting Roch wasn't even up by the time I was typing my reply to brianroberts. Had I been replying to Roch I would have mentioned such. Something like, "I don't agree with what Roch says...."

Six guys better than Richie Sexson

Giambi signed for only 1 year 5.25 mill guaranteed! That's a steal for a guy who had a 128 OPS+ last year (for comparison, Adam Dunn had 129, Raul Ibanez had 124, Bobby Abreu had 120). Of course the last 3 guys can play the outfield, but not well. Ibanez is even (almost) the same age, can't believe he got six times as much money guaranteed. So... Giambi just signed for less than Danys Baez made last year! hahahahahhahahahhah

Kieth Law adds his 2 cents... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3816434&name=law_keith Normally I like Law, but is he suggesting that only super star pitchers would be a good fit for us, and since Uehara isn't perfect that he's a bad fit? As if there were tons of better alternatives?

Kawakami to Braves, not Orioles

Not surprising. You seem to have a good feel for Japanese players, is there a right hand hitting first baseman that is available? Apparently the Orioles are interested in other "Pacif Rim" players. I wonder who they might be. Also, I went to the Royal board and those who responded feel Shealy has no value and could be had very cheaply. As you probably know Japanese position player are notorious for losing their power numbers...

2008 AL East Salaries: 1) Yankees $207 mill. 2) Red Sox $133 mill. 3) Blue Jays $97 mill. 4) O's $67 mill. 5) Rays $43 mill.I wasn't particularly surprised or even disappointed they didn't sign Teixiera or (especially) Burnett. I haven't advocated signing any 35+ year old FAs except Paul Byrd. But my idea of a stopgap pitcher is Braden Looper or Byrd or Jason Marquis (i. e. a decent pitcher on a short term deal), and the...

"Just out of curiosity, where did you get that number? What knowledge to you have of costs and/or operations of such a system? I would expect little to none. So you're guess of 5 million is most likely based on absolutely nothing. If I'm wrong, please tell me where you gained such insight into the spending and operations of our development system. I'd love to see those numbers." Here is my source:...

Not to beleaguer this thread since it is pure fantasy anyway but there is precedent for trades like this going down. Look at the haul the Indians got for C.C. who ended up being a 3 month rental but got 'em to the playoffs. If the White Sox traded for Roberts now they'd have him for a full year with the opportunity to trade him by the deadline. How would it look if Chicago got more for Roberts at the deadline than they gave up...

So, Pat Burrell just signed a fairly low-dollar deal with the Rays (2 years, $16 mill). After Manny signs (or maybe before, if he holds out for the impossible), there's six guys available either as FA (or in one case, a cheap salary-dump trade) who could be our DH next year assuming Scott/Montanez/Freel play LF and Huff plays 1B. I rank them according to how much I think they have left:1) Adam ...

If your Andy, where do you turn now? I say take the half the money you would have spent on Tex on a couple of YOUNG pitchers. such as Oliver perez . You take the other half and sign a couple more next year.

out of rotoworld.com According to MASN Sports, the Orioles and White Sox have discussed a trade involving Brian Roberts and Gavin Floyd. Selling high on Floyd wouldn't be a bad move for the White Sox, but itwould leave them with just two established starters in Mark Buerhle andJohn Danks. They'd have to spend quite a lot to land another, making aRoberts acquisition an especially expensive ...

Sorry guys but Nikkansports News in Japan reports today that the Braves are on the verge of signing a deal with Japanese FA pitcher Kawakami Kenshin. He's flying to Atlanta right now to sign the papers. I've watched him his whole career and he's a power pitcher with a low 90's fastball, good slider and forkball, and a killer curve. He will give up some homeruns, but he's used to playing in ...

This is a great signing by the Orioloes, but, trust me, you do not want to use this guy as a starter. He's basically a fastball/forkball pitcher like Nomo but he's past his prime. His velocity is down, his control can be terrible at times, and he has no stamina. That being said, he can dominate as a reliever because he comes into a game and attacks the strikezone. With the Yomiuri Giants he ...

So one of the "others" signs a contract, two years at $16 million. I think that is a pretty reasonable contract. All the people interested in the Orioles signing Dunn will have to wonder if he'll get an offer in that area. I'd say two years and $16 million is a decent offer for him and I'd say for that you should sign him. I was opposed to that earlier because I thought he would earn more and ...

The ordering of pitchers 2-7 is essentially random, they're all 5th-starter types, 6 guys will compete for ...

Okay, I know he has been talked about to death, and I for one, want to move on, but just watched his press conference, and I have to apologize to O's fans, as I had been advocating signing him for a while, and wanted him here really badly. According to Peter S's blog: TheOrioles still are trying to figure out what they'll do at first basethis coming season, and they've given some consideration to attemptinga salvage operation with former 45-Homer guy Richie Sexson. In the past couple of months, I have been following Wieters work and how he has progressed. I see major potential with him and the other Orioles prospects and minor league affiliates, but will he be able to adapt as a starting catcher or will be a complete bust. That's asking for a quick adjustment and would we be better off just bringing on a veteran and alternating roles?
