My take on the Smoltz situation

If we do end up resigning glavine, it wont be for anywhere near 8 million. he was refering to 2008

This is the dumbest idea on hear yet. He is a club house leader and he is a great player. Not to mention he is the only player left form the years they were good. He still has solid defense and is good at the plate this in not going to happen. And as my vfavorite player if they traded him away i would be rather upset.

actually...no one likes Manny. The Sox mgmt. and entire clubhouse hated him! People like that he puts up runs but he's a total clubhouse killer and me-me-me type of guy...think of T.O. and the Cowgirls. The Braves historically have never brought in hot heads like him. In fact, they've gone way out of their way not to . Who knows though, seems like they're doing a lot differently at the moment... And Gary Sheffield was a...

Worst day in braves history?

Bottom line.... John wants a ring before he retires, and he felt he had a better chance with the Red Sox than the Braves. By the way, isn't he originally from the Boston area? If he went to any other team other than the Braves, I'm glad he did not go to the Yankees or the Mets. Good luck John. I will still be rooting for ya! ... no, that's Glavine. Smoltz is originally from Michigan. Of course, Smoltz already has a...

I disagree with saying his last move was bad, it ended up bad because we were charging hard in 2007 and ran out of time, then we were arguably the favorite for 2008 and 3 of our starters went down in a 2 week span, but if they had stayed healthy, who knows how far we could have gone and that move would look completely different No. It was bad. Even the FO said it was a bad move.

Did we even offer a contract to Smoltz? I was under the impression that we havent done so and were waiting to offer him later on during rehab... Also, the reports Ive seen is that his rehab is going great and Im sure Bos believes this or they wouldnt have signed him. ( going to sign him) If you read the article that I've linked to in this thread, the Braves apparently offered Smoltz $2M in guaranteed money with the chance to...

Obviously no matter how you feel about the situation, there is at least some level of shock in that it appears that John Smoltz is actually going to be leaving the Braves. It is going to be strange, to say the least, to see John Smoltz wearing a Red Sox uniform in 2009. Honestly though, it could be the best thing for both sides. Let me be clear that the two sides mentioned here does not ...

If I have to come on here and read about all of the bandwagon-"I post once a month every time something goes wrong"-bltch all the time fans much longer, I'm going to go insane. You all fail to seek reason and understanding in any situation that doesn't go our way, and instead look to find the easy person to blame...Wren. He made a more than adequate offer to Burnett, he didn't want to play in ...

we just let go a franchise player who (along with Chipper) is the heart, soul, and leader of this team and we just let him slip away...He probably would have taken a pay cut to stay here but wren just sat on his hands and didnt even offer a contract...i have been patient with wren this offseason until now....HOW IN THE HELL DO WE LET SMOLTZ GET AWAY!!...I blame this completely on wren. Smoltz did...

Letting an Atlanta sports legend of 20 years walk over 5.5 million dollars. I remember the Dale Murph trade, and yes this is worse than that.

Is it time for this? Im so sick of watching this team fall apart piece by piece, why not go ahead and dismantle whats left of it?

It took us to lose Smoltz for Wren to look into signing Lowe? We should have targeted him the mintue Burnett signed with the Yankees. He is slow playing everything this offseason, and most likely he will "just miss out" on Lowe just as he as on everyone else. (I hope im wrong though) Maybe if Wren was more aggressive and actually signed a couple guys this offseason Smoltz would have ...

Dumping Marquis, trading Derosa for young arms? They may sign Bradley and trade for peavy. Yikes! I guess it is still the cubbies but that would be a scary rotation. Why don't we sign Bradley and trade for Peavy... Crazy Idea I konw

A lot of people are commenting about how Wren isn't doing his job so I wanted to see what you would do different. I would sign SP ben sheets, LF ken griffey jr, SP oliver perez, and 1B mike sweeney.

As much as a few of you say you would hate to have him because of his past, he would be a good fit... He would be perfect stop gap LF for us. If you like him or not, hes still a feared hitter with high OBP and make the batters in front and behind him better... He would sign cheap and provide the power OF bat we need and lineup protection... Low risk and high reward...If he struggles, which I don...

So lets say that one of the high priced sluggers (Dunn, Burrell, etc) are not deemed to fit in with our team next year. We could then look to pair a cheap lefty guy with pop to pair with Diaz. Eric Hinske could be that guy and should come well under 5M and in a 1-2 year deal. Just look at the three year average splits: Matt Diaz vsL .328/.356/.512/.868 21HR/406AB Eric Hinske vsR .259/.343...

WTF seriously this is a f'in joke...2 years/$16 million?! Pat Burrell is a right handed, POWER hitting LEFT FIELDER. The guy has a career OPS of .852 but it's been much higher the past four seasons. He is going to hit 30 HRs, post an OBP around .380 and slug over .500 WTF?

If Chipper retired today do you think he would be a first ballot Hall of Famer? He is one of the top 3 switch hitter in MLB history. He won a World Series was the MVP in 1999, 6 All-Star game selections, and a batting title in 2008. He has 2277 hits, 408 HRs and 1374 RBIs in his 15 year carrer. He is a Met killer and even through his has been injury riddened the pst few years when he is ...
