Interaction with nursing home staff
Published (2009-01-08 01:53:00)
A couple of services, good ones, developed a rapport with the quality nursing homes in the area, offering free CPR and First Aid, provided the training would be legit and not a rubber stamp, and a meeting with all those that counted on what EMS expected and did and why. Relations improved significantly. What also had to happen was attitudes among the EMS providers needed to be expunged as well. We had a few who felt they were better than the...

Once you become a supervisor you are going to change becuase you have more responsibility. Many of your colleages will get made and call you names. Many use the old verbage" you forgot where you came from". For some thats true but for many its about trying to truly do there job right. THe other issue is exactly how much training does the supervisor get to do this job. THere alot of debate as far as that goes in EMS right now. The...

That's a good idea. I think that EMS personnel should at least observe in a SNF setting to see what it's like. I also think that SNF RNs should observe EMS to see that we are more than just "Ambulance Drivers". On the subject of learnig CPR/AED. The SNF I work in, it's required for even certified nurse's assistants and non-certified nurse's assistants to be trained in CPR/AED. We worked a code the other...

Those who are stating that the only thing a union does is take dues, that's your fault. The union is only as strong as the membership. If the employees allow the union leadership to not do their jobs, it is the membership's job to replace the leadership. Attend meetings and vote for new leadership or run yourself. A union can protect employees from being treated unfairly. Yes, they can protect bad employees, but as someone stated...

Around here there are still some lingering problems with nursing home staff, especiall the RNs. Getting info from them is like asking them to recite the Gettysburg Address. They always seem to have an excuse such as: "I just came on shift"-even though it is 3am. What kind of shifts do you work? "The patient is new here"-...

http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Ambulance-driver -fined-for-road.4731637.jp This just gets me this guy is not a member of the Ambulance service but the headline and text equates to him being a member of EMS instead of a first aid organisation, secondly and this has come up before in the threads "Ambulance Driver" ...

This really doesn’t have anything to do with EMS but I saw the story on the news and thought it might stimulate some interesting conversation. Considering the injections were into IV lines I would think it is unlikely there would be any transmission of disease still I still feel this practice is just very wrong. Hospital...
