I had a state inspector tell me bandages expire because you can't guarantee sterility.

Except for the RSI drugs which we aren't able to refrigerate, they get thrown out weekly.

I see the logic behind both views: The expiration date on the box is noted to be 1/09 - the drug is good through the end of that month and should be discarded on 2/09. The expiratioin date on the box is noted to be 1/09 - since it's now 1/09 the drug is expired and should be discarded. Just these two posts proves the point I'm trying to prove within my department, it's left up to the individual to interpret the expiration and...

That all depends. Did you get orders for "two milligrams of morphine"? If so, then that's all the order is for. Two measly milligrams is all you can give. Or, did you get orders for, "two milligrams of morphine and repeat as needed"? If this is what you got, then the definition and explanation you offered in your post makes sense. -be safe

The United States is in an economic crisis and Canada is the thrid world nation??? Yeah sure! I'd love to ask him how it would work if we cut ties with the USA. Gas and oil supply to the States would greatly disappear, lumber supply gone, water supply lessened... even electricity would be less abundant. I don't honestly think the USA would last long. Canada also manufactures a great many of the medications as well as the UK and the...

I have a question for the masses. During my paramedic educational process, I was led to believe that titration meant, if you were to ask for orders for MS, starting at 2 mg and titrating to pain level (optimal therapeutic effect) and vitals (Respirations, B/P, Pulse), then the sky is the limit, leaving the end dosage request open ended so you may adequately relieve pain without repeated online medical direction for each subsequent dosage...

I'm just curious about your departments policy for drug expirations. A good bit of the drugs in our box only note the month and year for expiration. In these cases, do you discard the drug at the beginning of the month noted on the box or do you wait until the last day of the month noted on the box before discarding them? ...

Anyone out there who works in a EMS system that uses Ketamine for traumatic pain? My system is considering a randomised and prospective study on Ketamine vs. morphine for pain with traumatic origins. If you want to treat pain, you open an envelope that says ketamine or morphine. Just curious if there are any other EMS ...

I'm just wondering, what's your procedure for administering aspirin to suspected ACS patients who are already taking anticoagulants such as Coumadin or Plavix? It's always been my practice to administer 324 mg of baby aspirin to any suspected ACS patient regardless if they take anticoagulants. I come across a good deal of ...

Our protocols do not include treatment for acute Hypertension. We do have protocols to treat the symptoms, such as lasix for pulmonary edema, but none that provide the ability to control the cause. I've been looking at a fast acting anti hypertensive agent such as clonidine. Is anyone here treating acute hypertension ...

Hiya kiddos. I'm looking for someone who might have a protocol for a smooth muscle relaxant such as Buscopan (hyoscine N-butyl bromide) for acute abdominal pain.
