I just got myself an
Appendix quarter horse and I was hoping to get out to a few Club shows and OQHA shows with him It has been a long time since I have shown Quarter Horse I am a hunter rider. Looking forward to it.

I do dressage not western so I can't really help, but I just wanted to tell you, I know how you feel! Dressage isn't nearly as popular here as H/J
disciplines and when you CAN find a nice dressage facility (that's not 2 hours away!), you have to pay $2000 a month for training board! ARGH!

I would suggest working with a hackamore gag bit, but drop it about half to 1" down (see no wrinkles) in
the horses mouth. This works on many of the horses I have tried it on. You should really work on getting him to listen to the bit rather than just trying a new bit. If it only happens at shows it may be worth it to take him to a few and just walk or trot the barrels/pole stopping at every ...
