Best: Debatable, arguable, you name it. Cheapest: Aside from the free ones, McAfee probably but you get what you pay for. User-friendly: Most AVs come with a "Basic" mode now so just check to see if the AV has that. I'm a bit of a fan but BitDefender does rather well for itself. I've recommended it for my workplace (and we'll probably get it), I use it at home and I recommend it for others. You're entitled...

I heard that particular myth before, but it's not true. Formatting does not damage a hard drive in any way. So, knock yourself out. P.S. Why are we responding to this cold thread?

Flash drives are pretty inexpensive anymore if they look around at most
retailers there now drives that come with programs preloaded on the flash
drive to secure the files with a password. (Which does require some minor
encryption behind the scenes or the files can't be protected) But all they will

Just to clarify:
What you've mentioned, FatTwinkie, is actually a reinstall. What was mentioned by kris23 and Chaos is a true way of re-imaging.
Using a program like Ghost, Acronis True Image, or the like, you can create a snapshot or image of the machine at whatever time you want. The benefit is that you have a backup of your system at the time it was imaged, so if you ever want reinstall...

I'm tempted to say your computer is slow but here....
- Uninstall OFFICE 2007 and reinstall from scratch (when I say uninstall, I mean also delete the leftover files/folders and run ccleaner)
- Defragment your hard disk, run a full ccleaner to remove temp files before that... clean registry with ccleaner too
- Check your startup ... what's running? is there a lot of useless junk like java ...
