Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go all the way back to my 4.9 install since Webhost4Life forgot to mention that they automatically delete database backups after a few days and I didn't bother FTP the backup file down my machine...? Is there something that outlines the DNN upgrade process so that I can try and mimic it manually and maby pick up the steps that failed?

The first two errors relating to the missing stored procedures GetWorkflows and GetTopHtmlText are related to the failed install of the HTML module and likely can be resolved by a manual reinstall/repair of the module by direct manipulation of the database. The next two errors relating to Host Settings and Module Definitions being currently unavailable are much more troublesome. Most likely similar errors will be discovered as you test...

That's just Microsoft trying to make sure things aren't turned on that don't need to be. Out of the box asp.net isn't enabled, you just have to enable it if you want to use it. Good for security, bad for usability if you need it but don't know :)? ASP.NET, by default, does not “trust” remote content.? So depending upon where you are in setup, you may be able to “see” the content on your remote share, but ASP.NET (at runtime) will error because it is not “trustworthy”.? To rectify this condition, you need to set appropriate security policy at the machine level. This can be accomplished using either the Code Access Security Policy Tool (caspol.exe) or the .NET Framework 2.0...

OK - it's fixed. SQL SMS?said the DB file was open by another process - and I fiddled around with that for a looooong time (restarting various services and even re-booting the server)? Finally gave up to save my sanity - an a few hours later it just started working - so everything is fine now! Thanks for your help and patience Me Leopold!

Sorry. Just to be clear, we are a web farm, not a web garden, and in the databse the "isDeleted" bit? for the module is set to 1, meaning the module is deleted, but the module will appear and disappear for about a day after it is deleted and then it will not appear on the page any more. ? Thanks again!

Mohammed,
before transferring the installation to the production domain, add the domain address in Host :: Portals for the portal as an additional Portal Alias.
in your web .config, make sure to adopt both connection strings to match the new sql server.

If you are very lucky, you might be able to re-FTP the file DotNetNuke.Membership.DataProvider.dll from the 5.02.00 upgrade zip's /bin folder to the site's /bin folder and then try to bring the site up. More likely, however, is that additional files were not properly unzipped and FTP's correctly and that the database upgrade scripts only partially ran. In that case, it would be best to restore...

Check the web extensions option in IIS to make sure that ASP.NET is enabled. Also make sure that default.aspx is listed in the default documents.

I've seen this happen before when cache has not been syncronised i.e. either you're running a webfarm and haven't set up the necessary caching provider, or else you're running a webgarden (dotnetnuke does not support them), or else you're running a database cluster that has a delayed syncronisation.

Basic question: How much of your app must you use? If all of it, DNN may not be the solution for you. You say your app doesn't handle dynamic content, so why would it even be ASP.NET?
As for separating the apps, that's what setting folders as applications does in IIS.

when does the error occur?
which version are you upgrading from?
are there errors in the upgrade logs (in website/providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovider folder)?
are you able to access the site and login?

It depends on the module. Most modules, if you reinstall/upgrade, will not lose their data. (assuming you didn't remove the module to begin with)
It is possible however that a module developer chose a different route though, and a module might lose all its data. It depends on the developer.
Always backup your site before you install/upgrade/uninstall modules. Chris Hammond

I am guesssing this is not a real DNN bug but programming issue for the 3rd party module.
Silly question maybe, but what did the third party developers say about this when you asked?
