I gave him some of that shampoo also! I really hope she gets better. I can hear her whining when I am on the phone with him bc her skin bothers her so bad. I would take her to the vet myself, but when dad's work is slow so is mine since I work for him! And, my hubby is a carpenter and very slow also. Edited by author Sun Nov 29, '09 6:54pm PST

Just a note, even if you see no "ethoxyquin" as an ingredient, it may still be in the product. "the following is a letter summarizing current research submitted by Gloria Dodd, DVM, to the Federal Food and Drug Administration, Division of Animal Feeds, on the subject of the pet food preservative Ethoxyquin, which may or may not be included in ingredients on product label, but is in every food containing fat and animal...

Haha awesome! Sedona has a porcupine puppet that I stuff treats into. Then I stick a couple of tennis balls in it to make it harder to get the treats. Lots of shaking, digging, and flinging fun. Hide and seek with food is fun too.

Go Bama! It's awesome to spread the message- I just talked some one out of buying chicken dog treats made in China today... I also talked my dad out of feeding Meow Mix to his cat (who is really overweight and sheds a ton). After a week on Blue Buffalo Indoor Cat Formula, he started seeing huge improvements. Three months later, he says he is so happy he started feeding her a higher quality food. So, yes I too believe a week can do wonders!

I dont really know about the proteins & things but I will tell you what foods we use for our pups. Gizmo is 14weeks & 7lbs, Sasha is a little over a year & 13lbs. They both, & Tucker, eat Taste of the Wild Pacific & it has done wonders for Sasha & Tucker. Sasha had some skin irritation around her left eye & her mouth & also got really bad ear infections. Since we have changed her, her skin is almost back to...

canned or kibble?
Published (2009-11-28 18:02:00)
From what I have read canned is better if you can afford to do so. However with having a Golden Retriever who would need 2 & 1/2 cans per day, hubby won't go for $5.00 a day in dog food.....so we opted to just give her dry with canned mixed in, she gets 1/4-1/3 can per feeding so roughly 1/2-2/3 a can per day. My smaller dog, chihuahua gets canned only right now as she won't eat the dry at the moment, she gets 1/4 can per day. So...

Venison an allergen?
Published (2009-11-28 00:08:00)
Zoey, please do a culture! Most likely, it's the same infection and is just improving and then relapsing because you aren't treating it with the correct anitbiotic. If you've been on that many different antibiotics without it clearing it up completely, you are obviously dealing with a very resistant bacteria. Giving all these inefective antibiotics will possibly just strengthen the bacteria even more making it even more...

I recommend EVO Red Meat. It's a good grain-free premium dog food! I've done really well on it!

"This information is misleading and there is no evidence that the menadione in our products is unsafe for dogs. In fact, menadione is added to benefit dogs"
Some pointers:
Menadione
* has never been researched or specifically approved for long term use, such as in pet food
* has been banned from use in food and supplements for human use in many European countries due to serious ...

Hi Shellie. If you go to the orijen website & click on their " white paper" they explain the exact differences between Acana & Orijen. I just switched myself & my person got the orijen regional red for me & large breed puppy for Squ'mey. We love it...can't wait until she is done mixing it with the Nutro. I actually chewed a small hole in the bag on the way home !

I would first try California natural puppy food. And also feed the complementary canned foods on the side, since I find the protein to be a tad low.

When I add pumpkin, the poops are bigger and softer. Pumkin is an excellent form of fiber. When my dogs were on evo I would frequently have to add pumpkin as well because their poops were too hard

I hope he keeps on feeding her Totw long enough to be convinced that its working.
Keep us updated, I love hearing stories like these. You should also take some before and after pics.
I reccomend bathing her with a shampoo called Malaseb which is antimicrobial and helps to control yeast overgrowth on the skin. Edited by author Sun Nov 29, '09 6:15pm PST

Okay!
I found Canine Caviar for 50 cents a small can. I think it's been there a while, so your Big Lots may or may not have any.
There is also Buddy Biscuits (The small ones) can't remember the price though
They also have these Biscuits that are made to look like candy bars for dogs. They are mostly grains, but there isn't anything nasty in them.
And finally, they have these turkey...

Wet food is great! I'd try something along the lines of Innova or California Natural and add a supplement like Wysong Biotic pH+ which has digestive enzymes and probiotics (to ensure oxalates consumed get digested properly) and helps prevent urine from becoming acidic.

I would look at other issues which would be causing the dog not to gain weight, such as worms, infection, cancer, etc. Not sure how big the dog is, but 4 cups of food is a lot and if he is not finishing, either he is not hungry or he does not like the food.
In the meantime, a warm place to sleep or a sweater will help keep him warm and prevent him from burning precious calories to try and ...

Quincy, we discovered it several years ago thanks to www.boxerworld.com (creators of the site). It is an amazing site and I refer to it constantly. I think they are a bit biased sometimes, but are good at explaining the reasons why they prefer certain foods over others. I always recommend it!
Another good site is www.dogfoodproject.com .

I never heard of him, but then again, its not like I'm up to date on all the data that comes out every day regarding nutrition.
The logic behind it doesent add up, how on earth would high protein kibble cause agression?
The dog would already have to have underlying agressive tendecies, because the food alone does not cause behavioral problems.
High protein diets causing health problems is a ...

The little ones in this house still have kibble sometimes. They're 7lbs and 10lbs.
They've had lots of luck with Acana Provincial, EVO small bites adult, and Before Grain Salmon. Worked out well for them, though we no longer do kibble as much.
What about protein concerns you? Much of what has been written about the hazards of high protein aren't true. You just have to make sure you ...

I think the Acana Pacifica would be just fine, Orijen 6 fish would probably work. Canidae has a grain free salmon flavor. Wellness Core Ocean would probably work. The new Evo fish flavor. There are also numerous foods that are beef, lamb, or venison based which would work as long as it doesn't have chicken it it. Orijen Regional Red would work too. Nature's Logic Beef. There are lots and ...

No its not. I think that a dog can develop allergies to almost anything really but venison is actually a good protein source to stick to for dogs with allergies. That along with lamb and fish.
