make sure you check out the forums of each daw before making a decision, that way you can see what people are getting pissed off about and whether it is getting resolved. Customer relations is a big part of it for me. If they're not listening to the users then don't bother, acid is a classic example of this.

Had a read of the website, loads of hype, I just stopped reading it. Actually lisened to the samples on the little player thing and downloaded the free demo, which hasn't convinced me at all. Nothing special to be honest, I wouldn't pay for them. But hey, just my opinion.

I agree that it's nice that you now get 8 style clip editing in the Lite versions, switching between v6 LE to avoid the crappy V7 limitations, and moving to another machine with a full V8 license was causing some cognitive dissonance... I keep both a "Korg Edition" and an M-audio Live Lite license updated in case I ever want to buy a second copy (it's the cheapest path given that ...

Renoise or reaper will both run on low specs. Just don't add too many heavy VSTs. With renoise you can get away with no VSTs easily imo.

go with either an Emu E6400/e4xt ultra, even a 6400 classic. also the Yamaha A5000 is awesome. I have both an E4xt and A5000 and use the A5 more. has 6 effects blocks that you can route a number of ways and 96 fully editable effects to choose from. the filters are great on both machines. you should be able to grab any of these for $200 to 400 easy.
