DVM Hylyt Products, Could This...
Published (2009-11-25 14:20:00)
I'm in need of shampoo and bath oil for Mr. Nemo.  I asked my sister to stop by PetSmart to pick some up.  They didn't have any in stock so I started looking online.  I've not been able to find it at any of the places I normally shop so when I went to my vet's linked online store to reorder Heartguard I noticed that they showed the cream rinse as being in stock.  I called to ask if they...

Groomer Job: Petsmart or PetCo?
Published (2009-11-25 20:15:00)
Hi ShelterDogs, Okay, I know this post is pretty old but I just joined this forum and really want say some stuff here. First, after reading this thread I hope you haven't given up! There were certainly a LOT of responses, and towards the end I only scanned some of them. But wow. Here's a little of my story (I have a tendancy to make a short story long, so please bear with me). I've had a dog at my heels all of my life and I...

DVM Hylyt Products, Could This...

DVM Pharmaceuticals isn't producing anything right now.  The FDA shut them down, because of some quality control issues.  (They make other products as well as shampoos, & their pill counts were off.  They were claiming that there were 250 capsules in a bottle, but there were actually more like 210 in there.  There wasn't actually anything wrong with their products per se, but they were...

Groomers, where do you get shears?
Published (2009-11-26 19:03:00)
Thanks for the sites.  I am not a groomer.  I just cut the sanitary with the shears.  My dog will stand still for me and will lie still as well.  I do not have clippers.

Groomers, where do you get shears?

I think it's dangerous to do a sanitary with shears, especially since there are some nice clippers that can do the job and cost less than some of the good shears anyway.  Personally, though, since you asked, I like Mink & Heritage Shears.  Hate anything that DublDuck makes.  As someone pointed out, you really have to try them in your hand.  Here's a nice little clipper if you are...

Dryers, which one?
Published (2009-11-29 16:50:00)
I have been thinking about the same thing. Having Zeke, a Collie with some already long hair. Everytime I bathe him, it takes forever to have him dry enough to go outside because it is gettings so cold. He does pretty well about laying down and he makes sure not to potty inside, I just feel it would be easier to go ahead and dry him and have it done and over with. I have also heard about using a good human dryer and just not put it...

Dryers, which one?
Published (2009-11-28 16:21:00)
Hmmm...well.  We don't have any self grooming places around here.  I had briefly thought of opening one in tandem with our carwash, but its been put on the back burner for the time being.   I have 2 pretty good human blowdryers, but they heat up too much to use them on my dogs.  My regular vacuum has a good blow setting too, but I don't think its powerful enough.  I was told to...

I have the first one. It does a great job on Aesop, and is comparable to the time it takes when he went to the dog wash and we used the dryer there. The little dogs are done in about 5 minutes. We have a rake, but not sure of the brand...just a wooden one I grabbed at petco.

I would take Petco just based on the contract being less time. That way, if they don't give you much chance to actually groom, you aren't locked in to being a bather for three years making peanuts. Once you are doing full charge grooming, or even if you are a really good bather/brusher, you can learn more and earn more by finding a really good private groomer to work for - then later by ...

Arearis: Temaril P and Cephalexin The Cephalexin is an antibiotic and may have been prescribed because the scratching has led to a staph infection, very itchy. I agree that you have to treat the dog, house and yard all at the same time and repeat in ten days.

Because of those heavy ears, cockers tend to have a lot of ear issues and most often the smell comes out of the ears. I'd recommend regular ear cleaning with a good product (epiotic is one) to keep those ear canals clean and dry.

LOL, You *can* trim the hair with clippers, if it starts to cause him to slide on smooth flooring. I keep Emma's trimmed, because she is a sloth, and her rear is weak. She loses footing easily.

I've never heard of that particular brand, but I've used one called Triple Pet Plaque Off (goes in the water) and it seems to work fine. Max has never let anyone brush his teeth (he tries to eat the toothbrush) and the vet always remarks that his teeth look great. Joyce
