sl2crmeg: AgileGSD: Krissim Klaw:  Sadly I can't think of anything particular unless we can somehow attach some value to the animals.  Sadly many people don't value dogs and cats that highly so it doesn't matter if they are slain by the millions.   And even sadder is that shelter workers are can be some of the worst offenders as far as not valuing the life of animals in their care.   WOW....

Dog's depth Perception
Published (2009-11-27 12:11:00)
kpwlee: He has jumped up onto things that one would think were out of safe reach but not off them. But I'd have to wonder how long Bugsy has known he's had a weak leg/joint and as much of a wild man as he is he may actually have been more self-protective than you realized?  Just a thot.  It's my experience that a dog tends NOT to be careful until they prove to themselves that's a weakness to do...

Dog's depth Perception

Not sure either about a dog's ability to discern depth and height and to necessarily perceive the dangers.  With my dogs, I would probably not trust them to make the right decision if a strong temptation was to appear and I wasn't around to make a verbal correction, if needed. All my dogs have pretty strong prey drive and I would err on the side of caution and not give them unsupervised access. Some dogs do seem to...

Good thoughts for Austin...

Oh Austin, mummy going to try to make you better.  Hopefully she'll get you some better medicine for your aches and pains.  I know my dogs would never take medicine from me either until I started putting it in icecream for them.  Maybe mum can try this. I'll send some positive healing vibes your way today.  You'll be in our thoughts and prayers. Johnny & Tessy

I haven't attended or watched and AKC conformation event in quite some time and was surprised by how large or heavy many of the breeds now look to me.  Even DH was asking me why the Aussie and BC looked so big.

His pain is better managed now which is great ... still won't eat or drink, so he got more sub-cue fluids when he got the fentanyl patch today. I had to drive all the way back to the e-vet since no local vets were open and the ones that were were leery of putting on the patch even with a referral since they don't know him. I also have more injectable meds so I don't have to wrench his neck getting pills...

Good thoughts for Brutus

Awww, Brutus, let's not take the "eat Brutus" thing too far, bud.  It's cute now, but I'm sure your mama won't feel so generous once you're feeling 100%.  That being said I'm squeeling happy that you're feeling so much better.  Tell your mom to give you a kiss on your forehead from me.

Dog show
Published (2009-11-27 19:40:00)
I missed it. boo... But yes, the last several shows I've watched, I've thought the dogs look heavy.  I always think about the injuries the huskies and mals would face were they ever to run on a team like that.  All the racing dogs I've ever seen are so skinny, they make my dogs look fat!  My vet would have my head if I ever brought Crusher or Onyx in looking like those dogs, but then he...

Yeah, the Dobe girl is gorgeous! I was drooling. But I have to say, I was very proud of Major the Min Pin in the BIS ring. He's a nice dog. Always nice to get to drool over all the beautiful dogs.

I really respect the fact you got seniors. I normally go for the mature dogs since they're harder to place. I got Carmy (Caramel) on impulse because the litter was getting their tails chopped off that day. I don't like that practice (sorry - it's your business if you do it - I understand) PLUS she's a mixed breed! Why do that??? Any way, all my dogs are strays/rescues except Carmy. ...

The immediate solution is to not allow here outside unattended, to pick up the poop very quickly. Some folks have had success with feeding pineapple to the dogs to prevent poop eating. Not to be unpleasant, but your husband needs to understand dogs a bit better. Number one, poop is a very valuable commodity in the dog world. Depending on what you feed, nutrients often pass on through and ...

Yikes! Poor guy! Sounds like you did pretty well considering. We'll send some good thoughts your way! And just an FYI - that dog *was* dog aggressive. That was NOT herding. Herding behaviors may involve circling, nipping, etc, but hanging onto a *dog* and not letting go is *not* herding in any form.

My dogs are good with our birds, we use "leave it" or for Timmy, who is much more curious about them than Sadie, we use a very stern "no" - for him this works, he looks as though the world has ended when we give him a stern "no" and he stops whatever he's doing immediately. He is quite sensitive to "no" - I guess because we rarely tell him no and because what makes him happiest is pleasing ...
