Malcolm had a slab fracture of a molar that required extraction. He did it on a Nylabone I think. I'm sure I could have looked into root canals, etc., but honestly couldn't afford it. The extraction was done by my regular vet and it was relatively quick to heal. I think the key as to whether you leave it or remove it has to do with the condition of the nerve and root of the affected tooth.

Thank you all so much. I have e-mailed a beagle rescue in NJ and explained our situation to see if there is anything out there that could help us. We just took him outside and he was able to walk, although he wasn't stable. That leads me to think that if he can walk, then maybe the disc isn't ruptured. Back in the summer, when a disc DID rupture, he could not walk at all. We are trying to be hopeful. This is so heartbreaking. He...

I hope that the steroids, etc. help--it is so difficult to make decisions like this. Keep us posted on how he does!

My dogs had broken teeth in the past without problems ... if there's no infection and it doesn't bother them , no worry ! ( After vet check of course ).

This is research represents a big shift in cancer research for dogs and humans. Dogs are becoming a focus for modeling human cancer since they are very close to us genetically. I like this type of research because it does not involve inducing cancer in lab animals artificially. Humans don't get cancer that way, and neither do pet dogs so it makes more sense to study the real thing scientifically and it is more humane. They will also be...

Personally, if I felt that the ear infection was cleared up I wouldn't go back. But I've dealt with lots of that kind of stuff so I'm reasonably confident. That said, the prudent thing to do is to go for the re-check.
If you don't go, you are taking that risk that it isn't completely cleared up, and round two can be much harder to get rid of. And when I say completely I mean he needs ...

you would have to see your vet and see if they would be willing to write a note for your municipality that excuses him due to "allergy"
i have a note from my vet excusing ruby because the rabies vacination almost killed her due to a bad allergic reaction.
she says its likely going to be the same for jasper.

One other thing that is very helpful in the case of small breed dogs or
diabetic dogs is to keep karo syrup on hand or glucose in a tube. In the
case of severely low blood sugar, rubbing a bit of this on the dogs gums
can save their life until you can get it to the vet to be stablized.
Very young small breed dogs can become hypoglycemic very easily if they
don't eat well or go to long between ...
