Re: Tail Docking Quote: He tortured and killed dogs for no apparent reason. You keep saying that dogs are your property and you can do what you want with them. Then anyone else must be allowed to do what they want with their dogs. You can't have it both ways. That is illogical.

Re: Tail Docking I actually think the comparison is valid. It's a matter of snowballing. The question isn't "Do I have the right to treat my property how I wish to treat it?", the question is "Is this treatment of my property humane?" The first question is easy to answer: Yes, you have the right to treat your property in anyway you like, in accordance with the law. The second is hazier. Where do...

Try putting a plate of dog food on your table, then after a while hand her a few pieces to get her interested in the taste. You could also try mixing wet food, dry food and some plain ground beef or something. To get my ex's cats to eat meat I often mixed it with tuna in the beginning.

LOL interesting way to put it
Because shows are to evaluate breeding stock. Without the ability to breed the dog obviously isn't breeding stock. If the dog fits the conformation standard "perfectly" it still can't pass those genes on to the next generation. Though showing can be fun for both owner and dog, so I can understand why people want to show pets and why some do (including myself). ...

basenji/pit/lab. How tall is he, how much does he weigh (meduim sized really is kinda vague one man's medium is another man's HUGE).
PS I wouldn't encourage him to chase deer. Here in PA (and a lot of other places) a dog seen chasing deer is shot on site. There are even some elements in state dog law that referrs back to harassment of animals and wildlife which is usually included in the ...

I didn't see it, although I meant to ( I keep forgetting to set up my Animal Planet DVR >.<). In theory though, I'm PISSED. Unless they spent the entire show beating people over the head with the fact this is a Really Bad Idea (tm), then I am extremely disappointed.
ETA: I watched the Cavachon segment and was so disgusted I couldn't watch any more. Serious? Not one mention that these are ...

Nubs is getting a new collar from CollarMania. I'm thinking about buying another collar from EllasLeads that I'm in love with, but I need to save for a Weightpulling Harness instead.
Nubs gets his own stocking of toys. And the grandparents always buy him a few odds and ends so, He'll get some nice things for christmas as well.

My first thought was one of the spaniel breeds, though I'm not sure how they rank on quietness.

awww..I'm sorry to hear that! She's most definitely in good hands. She probably really needs the hydration from the IV fluids and its best they xray her to make sure there's nothing stuck in there. **hugs** She will be back to her perky self in no time!

Because most dogs don't get any freedom, so it's exciting and new. My dogs don't run away. I have a suburban house so I can't and would never let them roam, and their house dogs. But if I open my front door, they'll go in and out, and they don't leave my front yard. My dogs are routiney off leash and get tons of freedom, so it's not a big deal to them.

I'm not an owner, sorry. But I'd suggest contacting the local breed club, talking with people. Get to know them. Find out who's breeding, talk to them. Meet their dogs. Find the breeder who's opinions you respect, who thinks along the same lines as you do. Basically, start talking to people, figure out who you like and trust and start learning from them who to go to. A breeder who ...

I'd pay no more for a perfect dog than I would for any other dog.
Breed dosen't make the dog, it's training and enviroment does.

The only thing I can tell you is they require a LOT and CONSTANT socialization.
They are one of only 3 breeds I am extremely wary of.

Plans for my current dogs... for 2009 and early 2010:
Continue behavioral mod with Jasper and working on Willow's dog-reactivity. Keep training everyone (except Jazz, he doesn't enjoy pulling) for sledding work. Develop a new, more intensive enrichment plan for Jasper. Work on installing a SOLID SitStay and DownStay on all the dogs. Continue integrating RAW into their ...

Intelligence Ranking? I found this interesting site. http://www.thedogxpert.com/breed_intelligence.html
Where does your favorite breed rank on this list?
The dogs I like are either in the second or third section of this ranking.

Wow, pretty sad but good news. It is disheartening when those who are in charge of taking care of dogs are actually the ones hurting them... good for the city, the guy sounded like a huge callous tyrant.

That is a very broad question... depends on what you're looking for. Each has their good qualities and their bad, and depending on the person and their lifestyle is going to determine which breed is best.
