Obesity has nothing to do with the ingredients. It relates to ignorance of how to determine how much to feed and proper body condition.

I think part of it of making it very expensive is to make people think they're buying a good product. I know every time I talk to a neighbor with a very overweight (should be 9-10 lbs, is currently 16 lbs) dog, they always say they're feeding the best food from the US and it's very expensive called Science Diet. It's a marketing strategy to make it a bit more expensive. If it's really cheap, then some people would...

Sassy cannot eat much meat so half the bulk of her diet is low phosphorus glutinous rice. Since kidney dogs could easily have pancreatic issues I choose not to feed fat for calories. Be interesting, just use 300 calories of fat instead of the rice! If you use human vitamin and mineral supplements you avoid the liver, flaxseed and nutritional yeast dog supplements are filled with. Of course you must know how much is appropriate for your dog! I...

Re: Is potato a filler? What is a good food brand? How do you know the percentage of meat protein? That is not published information, and the labels certainly don't distinguish between plant/grain protein and meat protein. Without a source to back up your information, there's no reason to believe it has any merit whatsoever. Food ingredients are listed by weight. That holds true in human food as well as pet food. There is no logical...

I would suggest Wellness Core Reduced Fat. http://www.omhpet.com/wellness/dog_w...n_reduced.h tml If you don't want to pay that much there are other low fat kibbles available also. You also have to adjust the amount you are giving the dog. A cup of Wellness Core Reduced Fat has 350 calories. Increased exercise will help as well.

I was going to get a bag of Solid Gold: Just A Wee Bit for Belle tomorrow, butu I went to their website to check out the ingredients. Except, where do they get their ocean fish meal from? It's one of the top ingredients, but I could find no ...

Nutrition for anal glands I had this question come up from a customer and I am curious. The dog has impacted anal glands. The dog has been on Science Diet its whole life (2 years) and it has been eating the Light formula for the past year. High in fiber, right? The Vet told the man that the dog needed a high fiber diet to help with the anal glands. But since the dog has ...

How about offering a raw meaty bone a couple times a week to give great chewing exercise and help polish teeth? A beef rib is terrific. You could offer pork ribs or lamb ribs or a chicken back. If a back is a bit much a chicken or turkey neck would be easier to figure out. If one lamb rib is too easy offer two uncut ribs. There is a little cut bone on the beef rib I must remove so my larger dogs...

I think Orijen has worked the best for us. There's no dog food that Nia actually likes and will eat when she isn't starving. She's just like that though, only eats if she's starving. Even with raw and cooked food. I think most dogs don't yearn for something unless you're always feeding table scraps or something that they really like.

Re: I want to feed raw! (In the future) It is a personal decision if you would like to feed veggies and stuff like that. All my dogs get is meat, bone, and organs. The general rule for amount to feed is 2-3% of the dog's ideal adult weight. Maybe you need to do some more research so you can decide if you would like to feed veggies and other supplements. Good luck ...

Where do you buy your dogs food? I was wondering where you purchase your dog's food and what kind of food you buy. I know that we are all passionate about our pets but please limit debates on quality of food to other posts. I buy Merrick BG at local pet supply store but I am going to try TOTW from Tractor Supply store. Thanks for taking the time to respond to the poll....

So, I was watching Animal Planet and to my surprise, I saw a Wellness commercial on TV! They talked about how they're praised on the Internet for using high quality ingredients and so on. Much of what is labeled filler, including potato, really is carbohydrates that properly processed, is digestible and a source of energy. I have read that potato is quite digestible and gives a spike in the blood sugar while the grains give a more constant level. Even well processed corn has digestible carbohydrates and proteins. One of the few things completely undigestible is beet pulp....

Yet another reason I love TOTW and question about rotating I posted last week maybe about switching to TOTW. Well I have yet another reason to love it. Mina had TERRIBLE dandruff on her own food, after two weeks of being on TOTW High Prairie it's gone. It's been replaced by a nice shiny healthy coat. That and Upendi, the pickiest dog on the planet chows it right down. ...

I've always found bully sticks and tendons to really clean teeth... but that is only if your dogs actually use the back teeth to chew. You could always use an enzyme like Petzlife Oral Gel.

I would say if the Orijen worked prior to changing you should go back. I used to have yorkies that ate EVO and it did take some time. I am with you on the grain free thing for sure. Just make sure you switch slow if you do go back. Good luck
