My one year old fell down the stairs at my sister-in-laws house a couple days ago. It was nine stairs and they were carpeted. I called the pediatrician and she said not to worry about bringing him in unless he had any signs of concussion which he didn't. He was back to himself in no time. Well now a couple of days later, two little knots have developed on the back of his head. When you touch them they move. They are a little above his...

Hello, Was your little one experiencing these symptoms (fever, irritability, whining...) around the time that she was vaccinated? If so, then I would not be overly concerned at this time. Your pediatrician may have advised you already, but in many cases, children will experience low grade fevers and a little bit of irritability during their vaccination period. This is a very normal occurrence, and most often just a dose of Tylenol or Motrin...

Hello - Testing for Lyme disease would make sense, given the symptoms. Also, since there is little to go on (no labs, no doctor's impression) one could make a number of guesses. Rather than do that, I'd like to see the lab results. Please follow up with us here once they are available and we'll see if this makes any more sense in some sort of medical context. There are just too many ...

I have two son's ages 12 and 13, and two nephews the same age. I noticed that they were all coming home from school appearing quite desperate, and when I asked them about it they said that they didn't like going at school because of several fights that happened in the school bathrooms. I thought that it would subside with time, but even now that they have started basketball season and are gone ...

Hello, There is concern now with plastics with dioxins that can leach into foods in heat so I would recommend using glass or ceramic and avoid plastics. Do not cover the food with plastic wrap either. Pyrex and Corning ware are good choices. Be careful to find microwave safe containers and be cautious in picking these up as they can get hot. Otherwise the burn issues are the major concern as ...

Hello, This is called leukorrhea and it is normal, often occurring prior to the onset of menses. This would be a good time to talk with her about her changing body so she will be prepared and not afraid when her periods start. Thank you for your concern about her. Best wishes.

Hello, The child should be examined by a pediatrician to see if there are any developmental delays or physical problems. Yes, home life that is chaotic, unstructured and otherwise unstable can contribute to these problems, as can abuse and other trauma. If all physical concerns are ruled out, emotional treatment might be in order with a child and family therapist. There are books on subject as...
