In what WAY didn't it work? The water did not drain right? Or, the pipes did not match up right?

If you are talking about a small ball inside the hole on the bottom of the toilet, I would say that is definitely A problem, not necessarily the only problem. You want all the little holes up along the underside of the rim of the bowl to be clean and free from objects or chemical build-ups. But you also want he large hole at the base of the bowl in most cases to be free flowing also. This is the main jet and starts the force of the water down...

SPDAVID, You are the man! Your instruction to keep the refill tube near the top of the overflow pipe was a shock to me! So, I searched the Intenet now I know what my problem has been since cutting the overflow pipe -- I pushed the refill tube down too deep -- I had no idea I was siphoning water from my tank into my bowl and went crazy trying to fix a leak that didn't even exist. You are the man! Your suggestion lead me to learn this from...

You could have a clogged vent stack and water is being siphoned from bowl. Water disappears from bowl.

Closet flange question

Basicly the toilet doesn't sit on the floor on either side. If I shim between the floor and the toilet on the high side won't the union between the closet gasket and the toilet be compromised, Do to the fact that the toilet and the closet flange are not flat with respect to each other. Thanks, J

Thanks for the quick reply richmond. I tried your suggestion today wit ha slight modification(since I had no food coloring). I turned the faucet on and filled a 8 qrt. pot twice so as no water could drain. The water was turned on high the whole time. No leaks were detected while I did this. So we know now that the leak is in the drain line.

Installing toilet on pitched floor
Published (2008-11-15 13:11:00)
Well, maybe I didn't mean just cement...I just meant not concrete. Mortar or something like that. Plenty of pavers last forever with some sort of mix other than concrete (large aggregate). I guess there are different grades of everything. SLC is just kind of expensive, though it might work well with the dam thing I was talking about. I guess that would depend on the true level of the floor. Who knows, we haven't seen a post back...

The new kitchen faucet is in, but it has four tubes coming out the bottom. However, all I need to install is the hot, cold, and sprayer. What's the fourth tube for?

One of our toilets are fine but the other seems fine after you first flush it (the water fills up the bowl as it should) but if you go to use it a while later- the water is way down low. I have had someone look at it but they cannot find anything wrong.

I am having a problem with a toilet drain. The toilet drain goes 2 feet to the tub drain then 2 feet untill it turns 90 degrees downward. The tub drains remarkably well and I can pour a 5 gallon bucket of water down the toilet drain while draining the tub and all the water flows great! I augged out the drain with the toilet out and augged out the toilet. I even set the toilet on bricks and ...

I have a double sink in the kitchen with an air vent for the dishwasher. Last night, there was a clog and I noticed water was slowly leaking out form under our cabinet when the water was on. Hi all, I've replaced my single sink with 2 drop-ins in my bathroom...all's well with that BUT... having a hard time with drain. We're 'rigging' it so both sinks drain into same pipe. I know not recommended, but it's short term until I can afford for it to be done correctly behind the wall... Anyhow, we have a 'L' shaped pipe that will go from the added sink (drain) the the 't' connector...

Thanks for your reply and help. After looking online at cement board I have another couple of questions. I'm putting a tub surround up but i am wondering about the rest of the wall. Also am I correct in assuming I can use dens armor plus for the rest of the bathroom, and just use the ...

Hi, I recently used a hacksaw to correct the height of the toilet overflow pipe. Immediately after, the toilet started cycling on and off every 1/2 hour or so. I feared the worst since I could not see how sawing the overflow pipe could damage the flapper seal, but I decided to be optimistic and try the cheapest and easiest approach first. I replaced the flapper. No good. Then I installed a ...

Last night while watching TV I heard water dripping in the kitchen. Went over and looked up and saw water dripping from the light canister in the ceiling. Thinking that the bathtub or the toilet was over flowing upstairs I ran upstairs and found nothing. Went back down stairs, pulled out the light canister and found water pooled up on top of the ceiling drywall and between the floor joist. ...

Recently, I removed a toilet that had a broken off bolt. The changing of the bolt and replacement of the wax ring was simple enough. The trouble is the toilet doesn't sit level. It's a good 1/4 inch higher on one side then the other.(Seemed like it was a bit off to begin with, just not as bad as it is now) When checking the floor infront, behind and on the sides it appears to be level. This leads...
