Garage Door Bending In On Itself...

Well, Stanley openers haven't been around for ..ummm...10 yrs? Don't know about doors. A picture would probably let some of the experts (not me) have a chance at ID'ing the door. As to the smokin thing, we do the same. One of the first things I did here was reinforce the door. btw WD40 isn't the best choice.

creating window frames-----???
Published (2008-11-19 02:52:43)
Most new windows are installed in 2x4 or 2x6 walls that are sheathed with 1/2" plywood and have 1/2" drywall inside, therefore they have 4-9/16" or 6-9/16" jambs. A newly framed window opening should have a king stud and a minimum of one jack stud on each side of the opening holding the header in place. The king stud goes up along side of the header and the jacks go under it to carry the weight. I would not use a...

Replaced Front Door Hinges
Published (2008-11-19 02:52:27)
Actually, I should have said that the door was probably no longer plumb, not the frame. In any case, the frame and the door have to be plumb in 2 directions. If you put the pins back in the hinges and try to close the door, is the inner edge of the door hitting the piece of wood in the middle of the frame that seals the door from outside air? I forgot what it's called.

Replaced Front Door Hinges
Published (2008-11-18 17:18:00)
Welcome to the forums! It is necessary to remove one of the hinge screws on the top hinge closest to the stop molding and replace it with a 3" screw which will extend into the adjacent framing and pull the door and frame into correct position with each other. BTW, an easier way to replace the hinges would have been with the door still hanging from the old hinges, remove one hinge at a time, both door and jamb side, replacing with the new...

It is often proprietary, but usually a rubber compound that sticks to everything and never hardens. But why do you ask?? You can not fix a glass unit once the seal has failed.

replacement or new construction...
Published (2008-11-14 09:34:00)
New construction fixes to the outside of the house, replacement to the inside of the existing frame. When removing a window to be replaced by a 'replacement' type window, you generally remove only the inside side and top trim, (not the stool), and the stops and associated pieces. You then cut the cords or unbolt the rods and remove the sashes. The replacement window is then screwed into the exiting frame. I have known people who have...

The frame is plumb and all of the hinges are equally out of line. When the door is in closed without the pins all three sets overlap equally, they all look like this(but vertical): -_-_-

Hi taser, I'm not famiriar with all of the northeast, but way up in Maine the consumer laws are among the toughest in the nation. Maybe your state as well. The last line of all warrenties must state something to the effect of "this warrenty gives you specific legal rights, you may have other rights which vary from state to state." Here is a link to Maine's list of laws, written so we can read them. Office of the Maine AG:...

Larry, when you say backwards do you mean so that the screw heads will not recess properly? Could a hinge mortise cut too deep cause this also?

My garage door is a multi-panel roll up, I installed a garage door opener about 7 years ago. The door has 3 steel vertical brace rails, one at each end and one in the middle- a normal garage door- the opener arm is attached to the middle steel rail, and is bolted through the rail to the outside of the door- a normal installation- but now when the door is in the up position, I noticed it sagging ...

I re-finished my front door and decided to replace the hinges. I hung both sides on the door then held the door in place while I screwed it to the door jamb. The door wouldn't even close. I was able to pull the pins and put the door into place, I saw what the issue was, the hinges were not lining up. I loosened some screws and was able to get the door to close. When closing it had to be lifted up...

I need help, I am in a pinch trying to hang new doors. I have done them before in 6 doors in the down stairs of my house. I am using 3.5" Schlaage hinges. I router'd out my own hinge recesses using a Black and Decker router template and they are flush on the door and frame. Now I hang the door and it will not close It gets to about 3~4 inches before being close and then it looks like ...

Working on house made of block walls, approximately 5.25" thick. There are presently single pane windows mounted in metal frames installed throughout the house. I would like to remove these windows and install double pane insultated windows. I was thinking of removing the current windows and using framing each opening with 2x6 lumber. Hopefully, this will allow me to obtain a "standard" size ...

We presently have a screened-in porch we would like to make weathertight. We have decided on double-hung windows. My question is....the structure is framed with 4x4 posts on 42" centers. The new windows would be approx. 42"x69". I'm thinking they just can't put replacement windows in the openings since there is no blind stop on the outside and no jamb stops on the inside. 4 screws certainly ...

I didn't know where to post this, but here goes: I am planning to put a door into an interior wall where there is currently a larger opening. The floor is a real wood floor, so the question I have is: Should I frame the new wall (surrounding new door frame) right on top of the wood floor (screwing through the wood floor and into the subfloor), or should I cut the space out of the floor for the...

Recently installed new construction windows - removed the old windows down to the rough in, wrapped the entire rough in in protecto wrap (our far enough to cover where the nailing fin stops), dropped the new window in, covered the nailing fin with more protecto wrap and applied 3.23" vinyl casing/mold around and caulked. But they are leaking between the rough in and what appears to be the fin....
