  So you already had a free partition on which to install Linux? Use Gparted in your Linux installation or download BootItNG and boot the computer with it and see if the Windows partition is hidden. There is no need to install BootItNG, hit cancel at the installation screen and you will be taken to the Maintenance mode where you will be able to verify and change the partition's hidden status if necessary....

  Looking deeper into CCleaner, I discovered that under the Applications tab of Cleaner, a new box for Office 2007 had been added, clearly since I installed the file types converter mentioned in my previous post. And--that box was checked! This means that while I thought I had only checked "Cookies," the Office 2007 box on the other tab was also checked. I think the mystery is solved. Doug, try rt clicking Taskbar>select Task Manager. Check Processes and in CPU column the values should be mostly 00 except for System Idle which is 99.
