Let's first try to determine what we mean when we talk about Google's "sandbox." A couple of years ago or so some folks started to notice that it took much longer for new sites to rank -- and stick in the rankings -- then it previously did. After what appeared to be almost a predetermined time, the sites would mysteriously pop up in the search results and stay there as expected. People started to refer to this as...

I'm going to disagree with John.. As this site shows, a properly built internal navigation system is all that you need.. The sitemap.xml does not promise that those pages will be indexed and can introduce the potential for errors in your crawl rate.. Let's say you build the sitemap.. Then 6 months or a year later you change some filenames for whatever reason.. But, as most people will do, you don't get around to updating the...

I agree with Fey, build your site properly, and the XML file will be useless. Try to remember why the search engines created the XML site map format. They had webmasters that were complaining that there was no way for them to provide the engines a way to find all the pages on their massive dynamic web sites. So the engines came out with this tool for those webmasters. It's for the sites that are not search engine friendly. If your site...

A site map will not surpass a well-built site in the case of getting it indexed. I still consider it part of good SEO practice. I don't know how much things have changed since when I first started using them, but things seemed to get crawled faster past the first few tiers of the site with the XML sitemap as without... and as far as updating it: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ Just run it occasionally to be sure it's up to date if you...

It's good idea, even if only for diagnostic purposes. Plus, it only takes a few minutes to take care of so I wouldn't worry about the cost, it should be considered part of normal best-practices.

Well, I couldn't find the Google reference to 1,000 URLs, but as it follows the protocol it should accept the 50,000 maximum. Sitemaps.org FAQ : Quote: Sitemaps should be no larger than 10MB (10,485,760 bytes) and can contain a maximum of 50,000 URLs.

Hello all. My web site is written by php. Most of pages are accessed by query string variables just like this forum site. for example http://www.mysite.com/view.php?id=100 id variable changes from 1 to 1000, or no limit. And site contents varies based on query string. When I generate sitemap from auto generating tools on the web, it writes like http://www....

Google was a predictable little search engine when it was a toddler. It loved content and it loved links. It really, really loved links. As it grew it introduced other factors over the years. Whether you call them the "yo-yos" or the "wobblies," search positions are impossible to predict. G has introduced (or might have introduced, or we surmise they might have introduced, or it's all just plain...
