Calling Ben Sheets
Published (2008-11-21 01:40:00)
I have family in St. Louis and I watched Mulder when he came back, then broke down again. I don't know what his medical problem is, but the guy can flat out pitch when healthy. A minor league deal with incentives would be fine. But I don't know that anyone will be able to count on Mulder ever again. I'd love to see Lowe signed and pick up one reliever who can be here for 3 years so we're covered when Madson takes a hike....

****very interesting site i notice that utley has 8 "lucky" hr 7 of them at cbp very interesting indeed **** David Wright has 6; Pujols has 7; what's your point? You're not saying that Utley is merely an average hitter are you? A "lucky homer" doesn't have much, if anything at all, to do with the ballpark; per se. Lucky Homer - A home run that would not have cleared the fence if it has been...

Utley out, Manny in?
Published (2008-11-21 10:08:00)
But Manny isn't just for this year, or for the next 2 years - Manny is for the next 4 years most likely. Burrell, etc. are short-term contracts that won't leave us with our hands tied behind our backs down the line. For the record, I am OK with signing Burrell to a 2-year deal, but I doubt we do it because I think he's going to ask for more $$$ and years than I'd be comfortable giving him, but some AL team most likely...

Marson or Coste?
Published (2008-11-21 13:37:00)
I would be absolutly amazed if Coste made the team and Marson didn't. Coste is a great story, and I like him, but I don't think he should be taking starts away from Marson. Marson is up-and-coming. Coste is 35.

Ty Wigginton

I think we could offer Lou Marson for Wiggington, and Wade would decline out of fear he gets screwed over again by us. haha, okay maybe not Marson, but someone like Kendrick.

I went to 24 games in 08 so I will go to the 14 or 17 games you get in a partial plan. Against the plan: I like sitting in different parts of the park. I like being able to decide last minute. For the plan: You get first crack at games that will sell out. Option to buy post season tickets before they go to a lottery system. Small price break. (very small)

h ttp:// www.hittrackeronline.com/index.php It tracks home runs, lists distances, projected distances, (if the ball hit something during flight) the number of parks it would have been out in, height of the ball, speed off the bat, and it lists them as 'lucky' 'no doubters' etc. Its freakin awesome.

Phillies name bench coach The Phillies have named Pete Mackanin as their bench coach. Mackanin, 57, spent this past year as a pro scout for the New York Yankees after managing the Cincinnati Reds for the final 3 months of the 2007 season. The Reds went 41-39 (.513) and had the second-best record in the National League Central Division during his tenure. In 2005, Mackanin was interim manager...

ESPN reported New front man for the Yankees Hal Steinbrenner said the offer for C.C. Sabbathia is not on the table forever, this is the same thing they did with Arod and later came back and gave home the same or more money, it's a Power trip by them. I wish C.C. and other free agent starting pitchers would stick it to them and take a little less money and go to a contender. Let's face it look ...

I realize that many posters hate the idea of Manny Ramierez on this team, but with the unforseen 4-6 month layoff for Utley, how could we deny the need now? Stop gaps are a joke. Sure, Donald could step in, but the offense and presence lost with Utley, cannot be made up without a great proven commodity. With Utley out, and no Burrell (let's assume), Ryan Howard will never see a pitch to ...

Do you think we should just stick with Bruntlett at second, although he really did a bad job in that one game against the Mets overall he did have a pretty solid year all around. Don't forget if the Phils keep Burrell there goes the defensive replacement although finding a good defensive outfielder should not be that hard. Or do you think we go after someone like Iguchi again. Is there ...

We had an assembly at my school tonight for all the winter sports. Our guest speaker was the Phillies own Chris Wheeler. Basically he went through all the basic things like school comes first and stuff like that. He talked about the Phillies too, and answered a bunch of questions. And yes, he tried to redo the "Wheeler" doing some sort of arm motion but he said he really didnt know how what ...

Assuming it takes Utley until June to recover, what are the realistic options for 2B? Bruntlett is probably the default starter now. What about bringing back Tad Iguchi? Or maybe even Nick Punto? How about if we try Donald at 2B this offseason?

I haven't heard one word on FA Ben Sheets yet. I wonder if health risks might be scaring teams off. This guy has been flying under the radar. Could $10-$12mil with incentives for number of starts and innings pitched land him. No doubt if healthy he is a solid #1 SP-he was able to take his turn all year in 08' until he came down with an elbow problem and missed a couple of September starts. I ...

Since the Cubbies picked up Gregg, it seems Wood will not be back next year. Should/do we try and pursue him? Now, I know some will argue Madson did well in the 8th inning, which he did, but that would be a heck of a 7th, 8th and 9th inning. Madson/Romero in the 6th/7th, Wood in the 8th, and Lidge in the 9th. It may be a pipe dream, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

OK I will get some flack for this but I am talking about for the amount of money each of these guys will be asking for or receive, not just their talents, of course if one of the Free Agents below would sign for a million dollars you would take everyone of them. 1. Mark Texteria - Overated he does not come up in big situations 2. CC Sabathia - Would take him in a minute but has the chance of...

I'm sorry but Moyer is 46 years old and not a #2 pitcher. I respect the guy greatly but we need a solid upgrade to our rotation. The goal is to get better not stay the same or go backwards. What is with the KMart shopping every off-season? They made a ton of money this year. Go get Lowe or Burnett or even Sheets.

Don't give me this he's a "cancer" stuff. He can flat out rake. Imagine this HOFer in our lineup. I can see the Mutts fans jumping into the Hudson right now. He's the best hitter in baseball. Teams fear this guy. Cholly loves him and he loves Cholly. He's no worse in the field then Pat. GET IT DONE AMARO.

In football, it usually happens the first day. Is it because there is so much more money involved in baseball people just want to get it right?

Here's some odds and ends trivia because im bored. See if ya can answer them and add more if ya like. 1. What former Phillies relieve pitcher wore a amnidexterious glove so he could pitch with either hand ( although I dont know if he ever actually pitched with the other hand). ? 2. What former phillie had a brother who was a RB for the New England Pats ? 3. What former Phillie switchhitter...
