Strength Goals - Page 2 -...
Published (2009-12-07 20:57:00)
My training routine is basically 3-4 sets of core lifts to exhaustion, using a weight that's a 10-12 RM or a 5-8 RM. My back exercises are upright rows, bent over lat pulls, and pull-ups. Half the time I start with pull-ups, and the other half I start with lat pulls before moving onto upright rows. The 6 seems to have just been an off day though... Today I did pull-ups first thing in the gym and I got in 9

So one old man to another... how does the ice help? I've been wrapping mine during and using an emu, msm, glucosamine, aloe concoction on them. Somewhat helpful, but doesn't do anything for the tendonitis while doing things like skull crushers. I recently had to drop my curls and crushers from 125 to 60... And yesterday, I had to just let them go completely. Of course as long as I squat, dead, bench, row, OHP...I really don't...

That's a good habit to get into Jaster. It's all about managing the inflamation. Get ready for longer warmups too! I just got my copy of "Strong Enough" written by M. Rippetoe. I love the chapter on what it is like to be an older lifter. I had no where near the career in lifting that he did but it is so nice to see someone who "had it all" reflect on his better years and what he thinks of the changes.

Back injury has hindered but never stopped me training. If i T bar row heavy my lower spine plays me merry hell. I guess you could have trapped a nerve called the Sacrum flexus Just pulled spinal erectal tissue or at worst prolapsed a disc Rest up until given ok by the quack (doctor)

It depends on the weights you life on the deadlift. If you wants to deadlift with high weights than there should be 2 inch thick mats otherwise the 1 inch thickness is appropriate.

Cardio on your two off days, either 15-20 min of HIIT or even up to an hour of lower intensity, endurance type training. Oh and congrats on your 5x5 success to date. Enjoy.

I have not been, am not currently, nor will I every be strong in the worldly scheme of things; however, I am currently stronger than I have been in the past as measured by the weight I am using in my training. My suggestion is to do barbell work with the compound exercises - 6 to 8 sets of singles, doubles or triples (reps) and no higher after proper warmup progressive of course. ...

I remember you from NaturalStrength board... Bob got tired of all the "crap" that didn't reflect his philosophy and decided to shut it down. Too bad because that was actually one of the better boards, with very little "crap" I thought. Anyway, have you stopped by the site lately? He just recently started a new forum, it's only free to the first 100 members for the first year or something ...

And if you're wondering what brought on this post, I recently had a workout that I was particularly proud of. Two days ago I squatted 225lbs for 40 reps. It took me around 5 minutes. 5 minutes of constant battle with my own mind who was telling me to quit. I won. And damn am I sore today.
