The current price for VIP is £89.50 per month, assuming you are paying by DD and have ebilling. First of all, check your bill to see what you are paying compared to this. BB XXL is £8 per month more than this, making VIP with BB XXL £97.50 per month.

Not really sure how it would be cheaper if you upgrade??
Surely it would only be cheaper if you downgrade.

It's not possible. Your DNS name isn't tied to your account. Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/tools/host-name-lookup.a sp , click host lookup, and you'll see what I mean.
dyndns and an updater is the way to go.

I also don't understand what it's about.
Did a Google News search to see if any light could be shed on it but still don't get it.
If I'm right our TV guide is made by Gemstar. Virgin have a licence to use the Gemstar software. Gemstar are not happy that their software is able to record a channel on a Virgin box.
Have I read it wrong?...

I've done it most years (didn't last year as we were away for a couple of weeks over new Year). The only problem with it was that I forgot to cancel it in January one year, so ended up keeping it for 2 months instead of 1.
I know people who add the movies for a month, then take it off for 2 months, then back on again (repeated ad nauseum), they reckon the sky movies ...

I can still remember when ntl (the old name for Virgin Media) told customers that if they wanted a hard disk recorder they should buy a Tivo!

If there is still analogue in your area you will get the 4 "proper" channels. Probably not much else though.

I just want to add that the new Samsung is a great piece of kit. It is small, attractive, quieter than the SA box, and faster than the SA box in terms of menu speed and smoothness of ffw and rewind. I also prefer it to the Sky+ HD box, although Sky's remote control is much more intuitive.
Virgin Media should really offer an HDD upgrade option for it's boxes. I am sure many...

It's simple maths really. Sky make £4bn a year from primarily TV, raking in around £1bn in profits. If Sky were mass pirated their revenues would be hit, probably to the tune of 25% or thereabouts (all of their profit) from estimates on the level of piracy of ITV Digital and cable over the years.
Virgin on the other hand make most of their revenue from telephony/...
