Id your email address is a Tesco one and not a web based address then yes as far as I know they do cancel the email address. Some ISP's leave your email address active for a while after you cancel an account, but most do not. There are a couple that leave the email address active but most don't (AOL for example, your master email account can remain active and you can sign in to it via the web. Not sure if they still do this, but...

O2 Broadband Speed drops at...
Published (2009-11-22 17:49:00)
I recently left O2 for their terrible speeds on the Access package. They weren't intending to reduce speed at all. They were just wanting to reduce the speed torrents and other peer-to-peer programs. This was intended to make everything else quicker at peak times (such as general browsing, streaming videos etc). The tests didn't go to plan, apparently.

Strangely under the Data Protection act it seems you can correct inaccurate information a company holds about you but cannot make them delete it if it is accurate. Or at least if you can that option is well hidden on the ICO website!

I'm getting the exact same problem, albeit in Croydon
. I'm pretty sure it's DNS too because when it went down for 5 mins earlier I could still use messenger perfectly well.
I very nearly changed across to OpenDNS, but then I went to watch some telly so abandoned the idea!

If you like to "download" regularly, then no way. If you're just in to surfing the Internet - a bit of streaming now and again [not as in now and again during the day] - and downloading a few albums, then yes, it's an okay limit to have.

You do know that AOL, Talk Talk and Tiscali are now all the same company? (all three owned by Carphone Warehouse). AOL and Talk Talk both use the Opal Telecom network (a business ISP also owned by Carphone Warehouse) and, if it hasn't happened already, Tiscali will move over the Opal network as well. All three now have very similar fair use policies and 10 or 40Gb download ...

You really need to try connecting just the router to the master telephone socket and unplug all other phones, Sky boxes etc etc. This will confirm if the problem is your side of the socket or t'other side. Then add / swap devices one at a time until the problem recurs. Before talking to O2 again make sure you have done this basic test with the O2 box and not your own router ...

No company are allowed to refuse a MAC, even if you are in a contract. They've broken Ofcom regulations here.
If you simply requested the contract to be terminated then you will only be charged up to the termination date (which will be the 30 days notice). They can charge you the remainder of the contract if you are within your contract period, but if nothing has changed ...
