Adrian Mole

I've now read it. It was a completely unexpected read in that I didn't laugh out loud more than a couple of times. It was much more bitter-sweet than the early books and I found it more tragic than comical. I don't think the blurb on the front "Adrian Mole really is a brilliant comic creation" (The Times) applies to this book. It's much more than that, and for me, the ending was perfect. I made it about a third of the way through Kingdom. Not sure what to make of it yet... seems great in some parts, slow in others. I definitely get the feeling that knowing more about the bible/biblical history before reading would've helped.

I'm going back around 20 years, but there used to be a wonderful warehouse-style remaindered bookshop in Barnard Castle in Northumberland.
Nowadays, it's difficult to find non-chain stores. There are a few lovely little shops in London suburbs, but they don't always survive. Crockett and Powall in Waterloo closed very recently.

Clan of the Cave Bear is my all time favourite book, fantastic series but like others have mentioned, the last couple of books have been disappointing in as much, for me anyway, there was too much discription of the land and how rocks formed type of thing and not so much of Ayla and the story.

If you've got an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch, you can download an application that gives you access to loads of books on eReader - prices vary depending on the popularity of the book, but they're not at all bad. You go to the eReader website, buy your book, and next time you synchronise, the book is automatically downloaded to the iPhone/iPod Touch. The screen is small, ...
