I like the idea of personalising the cover - although I would probably think about
wear and tear when choosing how to do it. Depending on the surface, stickers or rub ons to make a title might look nice.

I have a private blog on blogger. No one can read it expect for people I give permission to. I haven't tried any other sites, though, so I don't know if there's anything better or not.

Are you planning on doing it digitally/paper/hybrid? My main advice would be to keep things simple. The albums I have done usually have a consistent
colour scheme and sometimes very similar layouts. Are you wanting to get a book made or go with a more traditional album? Also think about what size might be more convenient for him/her. 12x12 is nice but quite bulky. A smaller album might be easier ...

you could use the dodge brush. low opacity, highlight the whites and the
catchlights, use the burn or darken brush on pupils

Do you take as many as your card will hold? I empty my camera often and have never filled a card.
Do you save them all? Nope. I immediately trash the really bad ones and near
duplicates.
Do you delete photos as you take them if they don't look good in the camera? Rarely.
Do you delete most of them? I deleted 75% of my photos when I was shooting slides, but have probably reversed this ...
