Heather, that first shot is breathtaking - talk about "Mona Lisa" looks! Her eyes are just incredible. What did you do to the shot as far as pp (if anything) - it's very, very beautiful.

Iconic Portraits, What makes...

When you look at your two example photos, the common thread is undeniably the eyes of the subject. While the Shaw portrait is an engaging glimpse into the artist, the portrait of Goebbles is almost disturbing. His eyes in that portrait have a dark, hatred with a depth that is seldom seen. For me, the eyes are always what make a wonderful portrait. As far as icons go, I always think of the Afghan girl.

Sounds like fun! Three months can be really fun! If you can spare a little extra time I'm sure it will go very well...I don't know how many 3 mos olds you've shot but it is a SUPER age for a shoot. They are smiling at this age, but don't go anywhere yet. The smiles can be hard to catch but I know that the parents would be happy if you did. It is the time of the first social smile and parents can usually get it out of them...

First of all, your daughter(s!) are soooo beautiful!!!
I like the treatment, ... the only think that bums me a bit it the tight crop ... or maybe it's because her eyes are on the (horizontal) center line?
Hope you are having a fun Thanksgiving with your family!!

Hi Josh!
I love your poses in some of these. They look like really neat people! I can imagine these on country music album covers. Which is a fun thing!
One thing I keep wanting to mention with your posts in the last six months or so is that you have really strong yellow tones in all your photos... just on the edge of too much. It is probably a look you are going for, and as such you can be ...

Nicely done!!!
Looks like you opted to allow for some front spill from the flash based on the catchlights (one centered and one at 5 o'clock).

Of the three on the rock, I like the first one best. That rock looks like a giant tortoise shell....
I like the 4th one. Yeah the sun is harsh, but it falls off pretty evenly without any short of on/off transitions you get with dappled sun. Still plenty of detail to her face.
The last one is WOW....

Beautiful work, Julie!
#1. Love it. She has amazing eyes and they command the attention of the whole image.
#2 Like the idea. Wish there wasn't that bit of foliage blocking her arm. Given the end of fall, and the slightly crumbled condition of the bridge, there is an interesting contrast of her youth and blonde hair to the rest of the scene.
#3. Dappled sunlight doesn't help here. Not sure ...

Question (and I apologize if this was covered and I missed it): Do the images have to be fresh (i.e., shot during the challenge period) or can they be older shots?
Looking forward to it!
