These appear to be updated from the original, but not so much that original reviews no longer apply. If you do a search for the original, you will also turn up reviews of the new model: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...&start=30&sa=N

Tripods and Airports/Travel -...

I travel quite often for work and have found that while traveling with "odd" things it is a good idea to call ahead of time to the airline and they can give you some guidelines. Some of them will even send you a link to a document that has those guidelines. I also travel with a copy of the document, just in case the flight attendants don'e know the guidelines. If you have status with that airline, it is often much easier than on...

Eye-Fi Pro Card, available now....
Published (2009-11-09 10:46:00)
My clarification wasn't so good. I don't need the Eye-fi app to post photos taken with the iPhone's built-in camera. Let me try again, the question goes to the ad-hoc and iPhone integration. Let's say I'm on a hike (in a 3G service area), I would like to be able to: 1. take a photo with my camera (a Canon DSLR, for example), in which I'm using an eye-fi SD card 2. send this photo to my iPhone (eye-fi card connects...

how about a 540 ez canon flash??/
Published (2009-11-12 19:35:00)
I recently picked up triggers and umbrellas for playing with strobes. I would like to add an inexpensive flash for a third flash. While searching around ebay found some 540's selling cheap. I was looking at either a vivitar 285 or a sigma 530 when I found these cheap. Any opinions.

From what I've heard, the 50mm f/1.2L is better than the 1.4, but not enough to justify its price tag. So unless you need the absolute best, I would go with the 50mm f/1.4. I moved this to the Accessories forum.
In my testing, yes, there is a difference. I use primarily Hoya HMC filters, but I also have one B+W multi-coated filter. Either are very good and have minimal effect on color, contrast and sharpness.
BTW, 2filter.com have fair prices and good information.

The cheapest reflectors that work fairly well in photography are reflective automotive sun shades. I have several of the silver types and they are both cheap and effective.
The folding cardboard type can be spray painted to gold tones or white if desired. (Many of those say "emergency" stuff on one side and some colorful scene on the other side, so spray painting them is normal in order to ...

I tested every light bare and with umbrella (43" wescott double fold shoot through). The umbrella consistently ate a stop and a third of light (1.3), so I'm not going to list it.
Actual f-stop numbers for each light -
580EX - f20
The first light I tested so I didn't know what to expect.
580EXII - f20
Suprised me this was the same as the 580. The only thing was the 580EXII was...

The "kit" softboxes may be too small for many portrait situations, but it appears to take all of the standard Eli' attachments. They are pretty good lights for the money, but they are digitally controlled which can potentially cause some issues in dirty electric sourced venues and with some portable power sources.
What is your intended use?

The Canon "EZ" series flashes are not very compatible with current digital cameras. I believe that you would only get full output. (EZ flashes were designed for Canon film cameras and read flash exposure off of the film itself.)
What you want are the "EX" series flashes for any modern Canon camera.
I do believe in the Sigma EF 530 DG Super flashes for Canon EOS as a very good combination of...

Good luck ... you would think someone would make an adapter "kit". I had to hand make one to slightly adapt my Zeiss right angle viewer to my 30D for telescopic focusing after looking everywhere.
And heaven forbid you misplace the Canon adapters ... hopefully someone will know of a source!

I can't answer your question with specifics because I haven't done video recording, but I CAN recommend that you contact www.soundprofessionals.com and talk to Chris, the owner, who provides some of the best customer service you will ever get. He will work with you to figure out what you need, won't try to sell you something you DON'T need just for extra $, and if he can't answer your questions...

The first thing to check is batteries.
If the transmitter has a "test" button, does that fire the receiver?
