Paradigm Studio 60 V5 - good deal?
Published (2009-12-04 13:54:00)
+1 to AxiomAudio(.com) 's Epic 60-500 system as an alternative. One of my buddies has the M60s + VP150 and loves the combo. Another buddy recently assembled a system w/ four QS8s (wall-mounted) for his surround audio and he loves 'em. The EP500 is a powerful and well-reviewed sub. And the price includes free shipping!

Paradigm Studio 60 V5 - good deal?

"One of my buddies has the M60s + VP150 and loves the combo." That is my set up for the front 3 as well!! I listened to the Paradigm's(driven by the flagship Pioneer Elie SC-09) and felt that they were not in the same league as my M-60's, the 2 centers were about equal from what I remember!! The Axioms produced more and tighter bass, better mid range, sound-stage was about equal. If you do not like vinyl Axiom has...

I wonder if the users here think that the CB-20's would work well added to Energy's Take Classic 5.1 system. I understand that most of Energy's speakers are pretty neutral/uncoloured. I can certainly say this of the Take Classics. Do you think the the timbre would match enough that they could be used in the L and R fronts, and move to of the 'Takes' to the presence channels for a 5.1+presence set-up? My receiver is a...

Just curious as to whether you have found replacements for your 616's tweeters. If so, what did you end up with? And how do they sound now?

Congrats Eljay,
Nice simple elegant speakers. I've never heard M-Ss - how do they compare to your Monitor 7s?
Also, why weren't Studio 20s (or 60's) on your shopping list?

The back of my 1,900 sq.ft. house - the family room + kitchen - is 14'x30' and is open to the rest of house. The PB10-NSD I had for five months (before I moved the HT to the basement and moved up to a PB12-NSD) pounded out serious, tight bass and literally shook the floors. It was great!

I know of one that uses a pair of 15" drivers in 7.9 ft^3 net volume sealed enclosure that were originally intended for use in an automotive environment, but the T/S specs, in addition to the rugged construction needed for a mobile environ and the quality of the motor assy and spider/woven tinsels lended themselves incredibly well to high output home theater use.

The signals coming from the devices you mentioned will be a maximum of 60 mHz, therefore there will be no problem. It's the TV that has the higher refresh rate. If you press the "info" or "display" button on the TV's remote, you'll see the incoming signals and then you have the option of having the TV convert to the higher refresh rate.
Then check out the third link of post 6.

Hi,
It's difficult to guess from the symptoms defined but usually it's the pcb that goes in a sub.
A replacement pcb (from say some place like parts express) will cost you maybe $200 to $300. I'm sure it'll cost more to do the same work thru Paradigm but you could always try.
So if it's worth it to you to take a chance and spend a couple of hundred (you don't really know until ...

Okay so I spent a couple hours with the speakers last night.
FYI, the Paradigms are Mini Mk3's and the Energy's were out of the box during this testing, still not broken in.
I calibrated and listened to the material around 80-85db's so as to not overdrive the Energy's out of the box.
I listened to a number of tracks of Bjork's Vespertine (lots of highs and mids, clear vocals and ...

I hate to suggest something that's so obvious, but are you sure that the bi-wiring clips between the upper and lower terminals are making contact? I auditioned some R616s early this summer and told the seller that one of the tweeters was dead. I was about to walk away from the deal when he discovered that one of the metal clips wasn't making contact with the top terminals. In a moment the tweeter...

ok, my $0.02 ...
I would go with option 1.
- Having a good mains and center is (in my opinion) very important
- the missing pieces can be added later (surrounds and sub)
- as you indicated, a sub may not be needed in your situation
- the PSB Imagine line is well regarded and I'm sure you will enjoy your music better with those than with smaller speakers.
One issue that I ...
