Did you try Shaw Guru's suggestion about leaving the TV off and trying the remote? You should be able to see the channels change up and down at least on the front panel of the STB. That will tell you if it's the TV or not. The wooden shelf in between may have been the difference or even the dark corner in the room. Give it a try.

WOW!!!! Watching HDnet tnight and it's as good as it's ever looked. I switch over to watch Sportscentre on TSNHD and it's pristine!!! No macroblocking, not even during logo wipes. Tennis hilights, beautiful. Basketball? Perfect. Olympic closing cermonies complete with flashing lights? Just like being there. Even my girlfriend said she's never seen the cable look this good. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven. This...

So long as you order is entered into the system prior to the 15th you will get the promo price. Also stock is starting to show up again in certain regions so by the end of the week many areas will be fully stocked again.

Still no improvement here. Was watching HDNet yesterday, and even STATIC scenes were macroblocking. Shaw HDTV service is suffering. Too bad I can't put it out of its misery. Quote: I'm not certain that TSN-HD's logo wipes are actually HD graphics, so that could lend to some of the macroblocking. Given how bad the TSN-logo wipe looks in HD, I'm stumped as to why they run it soooo frequently. When I had BEV, the TSN logo...

Workaround for watching the analogue channels would be a splitter sending signal to the TV itself and you can use the NTSC tuner on the TV (usually one available) to watch analogue for as long as it lasts. Although I can see someone with a preference for watching analogue live, when recording , the signal is encoded and usually loses significant PQ, relative to SD digital since digital is a bit for bit recording and the encoder in these STBs...

TiZZY most multi-interface (e.g., USB, eSATA & Firewire) external drives will not work, likely including the one you're considering. See Adding a SATA Drive To Pace HDPVRs for details, especially earlier posts in that thread starting about post 19. Most people generally report success with eSATA-only external drives. Some eSATA/USB combo drives (Vantec enclosures) have been reported to work. Others have worked for a while and then...

Hi Snak-pak. A couple of points. You can use the favourites functionality on your remote to by-pass all the channels you don't subscribe to. I believe this is true for either the Pace or Motorola boxes. I have enjoyed great success with the Motorola boxes over the years (starting in 2001). They tend to be very reliable for the most part. I don't have any experience with the Pace, so you'll have to read others testimony on those...

Unpleasant surprise... I almost barfed when I opened up the carton. It includes the standard Shaw Atlas PVR remote, same as for the Motorola DCTs. And, sure enough, the Pace box uses the same IR frequencies as the Motorola boxes. That is disgusting! I would have thought for sure that, being from a different manufacturer, the Pace would use different frequencies. So anybody who thinks they ...

This is a challenge that Pace is currently working on fine tuning a bit better for Shaw.
You can use the SKIP, REPLAY button for small jumps and the PAGE -/+ buttons for 5 minute jumps.

Haven't encountered that issue on an HD PVR, but I have seen such issues on an old DCT model, to which me and the shaw tech concluded had a fried tuner.
I cannot remember which sub-menu option tells the signal strength, however...
Power off the Shaw box, then immediately hit "Select" on the Shaw box to get into the background diagnostics. In here you can find the incoming signal ...

Now I know everyone is going to think I'm a little crazy, but I prefer the Shaw analog over the Shaw digital for basic cable. The main reason is picture quality, Shaw SD digital (at least with the basic channels) looks over compressed. Shaw analog seems to have much better picture quality in my area.
The second reason I prefer the analog map is that if there are any outages with the digital...

The recordings are based on the guide info which occassionally can be incorrect or can be cut off by other recordings.
FYI: I recorded all episodes of Dexter without incident this season.

Ditto in Winnipeg, a couple of black-screen dropouts per hour where audio continues, mostly just noticed this in the past week or so; and also, continued same-old-same-old periodic audio dropouts where video continues; and periodic complete dropouts where the picture pixellates and then freezes along with the audio dropping for a ...

ESATA - preliminary success.
So I ordered a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB SATA2 hard drive, and a 6ft ESATA to SATA cable to use with my Pace unit.
I wanted to avoid using an external drive enclosure, because my experience has been that they get quite heated, and the extra power adapter (and external unit itself) is a nuisance.
I came up with a pretty elegant solution that I am ...

Dangit...I spent the better part of 2 days f'ing around with my STB, Vista MCE, MyTray, CapDVHS and finally SageTV only to stumble on this thread.

Seems odd to set the PVR to 720P since Shaw is 1080i for HD and 480i for SD. You're creating an extra couple of unnecessary conversions, both for HD and SD.
