Sony Alpha DSLR-A550 First Thoughts
Published (2009-12-27 15:32:00)
None of Sony's current crop of DSLRs have video and while that certainly bucks the trend industry-wide, I personally think video is "nice to have" but not a deal breaker for a DSLR. Folks who are serious about video quality aren't gonna be buying DSLRs to shoot video as their primary medium, so I just don't think the presence or absence of a video component in a DSLR is that big of a deal. But every camera company with...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A550 First Thoughts

In my view video than cannot autofocus while the video is being filmed is crippled. And hardly any of these DSLR videos will AF while filming. Wonder how many camera salesmen point that out to customers? Oh well, Kelly

Nikon Coolpix S70 Review
Published (2009-12-22 13:52:00)
Nikon has released a few different touch screen point and shoot digital cameras, but the Coolpix S70 is their first with an OLED screen (288k dot resolution, 3.5 inch touch panel OLED) instead of the typical liquid crystal display. Being that the S70 has only one button on the entire body (an optional shutter button on the top), it relies exclusively on hand gestures to control every other feature. These include swiping gestures to scroll...

Canon EOS 7D Review
Published (2009-12-22 16:49:00)
"So 50% more pixels doesn't get you a 50% larger print." But of course it does. Just as the 50% pixel increase is an area increase the 50% increase of the print is in area as well. When you change from area to a line, the line ratio is the square root of the original area ratio. 46% area ratio (sorry, if you use hundredth of inches you can't use 50% instead of the more precise 46,3%...) means 20,9 % linear ratio and this is...

I've seen shots at ISO 1600 without any NR and they are very usable. Cameras don't...

Canon PowerShot G11 Review -...
Published (2009-12-22 07:58:00)
Hi, I am new here and thinking of buying the G11 since my 16months old G9 just died suddenly yesterday . I found out it is because some loose screws caused a short circuit in the motherboard . Apparently the same is happening for the G10. My worry is will this also happen to the G11? Can't afford to go buying a new camera every 2 years.

Sony Cyber-shot WX1 Review
Published (2009-12-28 16:12:00)
Point and shoot digital cameras have come a long way in the past decade - most are now capable of capturing high quality images outdoors in good light. But digital cameras generally don't do as well in low-light situations, indoors, and after dark. Digital images shot in low light environments often show lots of noise and display flat, dull colors. Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 was designed to change that. The WX1 utilizes an...

As a Sony owner, I had high hopes for this new 500/550 model. But the review on that other site turned out very lukewarm. Now I'm wondering if the 500/550 succeeds in making the lower price 330/380 look like a bargain?

When I first set eyes on the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS (also known as the IXUS 120 IS), one of Canon's newest Powershot ELPH cameras, I asked myself, "Haven't I seen this before?" In fact, it looks almost identical to the PowerShot SD780 IS , released this past February and reviewed by this website in March. The similarity isn't a bad thing, considering that the SD780 IS was awarded an "...

I gotta say, this looks like an awfully nice camera, especially if you
don't mind paying the big bucks for lenses.

Nice review, seems like a solid camera for the right price.

It would be very helpful to me if you would post some similar photos from DSLR's that are selling in this price range. I'm shopping in this price range and I'm torn between some of the new compacts, like this one and the one from Panasonic and some of the DSLR's in this range.
I'm not in the position to gather several of the DSLR's and some of the compacts in order to compare them. If you ...

I think the short height is a bit of a plus. Even though that grip battery is expensive, it makes the K-7 closer to a normal height battery while having the benefits of a second battery.
That external microphone option is awesome. Does it still do autofocus while shooting video? If so, I'd see no need to carry around a regular video camera too.
My only disappointment is that the iso ...
